I have just realised that the killer is not the page loading time, but the time required to connect to 'Poly. For me, it's 10 minutes for this thread. Simply atrocious.

35 seconds to load the page, and 52 seconds to load the reply-page; not as dramatic as your numbers, but it's still ten times slower...

Well, timewraps mostly appear after downtimes. And a slow server might have something to do with downtime as well.

Well this thread took me 553 seconds to load and there is no problem at my end, in fact, things seem to be very swift (don't worry, I wasn't sitting there patiently waiting, I was doing othe stuff). This is ridiculous considering there is next to no one online at the moment.

Do you know where the problem lies, and more importantly, are you any closer to the solution?

Of course if you have the choice between answering with actions rather than words it would be good. (i.e don't waste time replying to say that you can fix it, if it will cause delays to fixing it. )

Good news: it no longer takes aeons to connect to 'Poly

Bad news: server is still slow with loading time of this reply form at 67.34 seconds

So it takes about 3 minutes overall after I click on the "Post Reply" button until this form finishes loading.

Better than before, but there is still lots of room for improvement.

Well it is still extremely slow for me, although I noticed there was some downtime earlier on this afternoon (GMT). I hope these problems are going to subside soon. I have a better suggestion though:

Bin the old server and get a new one because it is crap

It seems to be a connection problem. It takes ages to connect to 'Poly - whether it's the discission forums or not - and Gamestats.

Why?

It is so slow.

Wait, wait, wait (nothing happens) for several minutes (even 5-10), then sevral KB transfered for 1-5 seconds, then repeat: wait, wait, wait, etc.

Haven't even been able to connect to this site for the past three or four days. No problems with any other sites, though.

It's reminiscent of the time (not so long ago) when I was stuck with my (rather unreliable) dial-up service...

The new server is really fast now, but Netscape 6 just say Please Wait although the loading process is already finished. But that suggest now a really short answer why the were problems since the big forum update.

MarkG is being diplomatic.

Mark and Dan are investing time and money to provide you with a free service with great content and quality.

While it's your right to notice problems and complain, stop *****ing like a crybaby as if someone owes you something.

You're acting as if Dan and Mark are guilty of depriving you of something you own or doing things just to annoy you.

They care for the success of the site as anybody here and I'm sure they suffer most when potencial users can't reach the site.

And while it's fine to alert them of problems, being a ***** about it is unjustified.
