Civ3 DOES make fun Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I think the worst error people are making is to play on very huge maps.
Smaller maps are much more fun to play since the phase where you expand is held shorter and every city has a much greater value. Also you dont get so much units to move around then, or you dont need to.

Dont mistake Civ3 for Work. Civ3 is a game and should be handled as a game. If you want to spend real much energy do spend it in your work.
95% of the games get boring when you are mistaking them for work and putting your whole energy into it.

I only play occassionally on smaller maps and it does make great fun.

If you are hardcore civ player I guess you should relax. Give it a break and then try again.

I guess if you are a hardcore civer civ3 might not be for you. If you are an occasional player I think it is great.

The only thing that bugs me are some interface decisions and the problem that I cant sink ships with planes. But apart from that I cant say I get annoyed very often because I play less often. Overall it does make fun though

Ah yes and play in parts.
Play your game in 3-4 parts and between the parts think about strategy and stuff like that and think what your chances are what you can do next.
Talk with other civers what you could do in this situation.

Best is you stop in such situations where it gets real difficult. (e.g.: no oil and nobody willing to trade). Take a break and think. And then play on.

I hope it might help someone,

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

For me, at least, fun is found in immersion. That is, the game is fun for me when I have forgotten the world around me and am able to think of myself as the actual Chief Enforcer of Libertaria.

The fun is interrupted when I suddenly realize that I am Lib again, and that I must go scrolling around to find that theater of battle where I had activated my cruise missle. Not once. Not twice. But again and again and again.

Put an end to popups!

Sorry a game can be fun without being totally "seducted" by it.

I consider games breaks in my "normal" life when I want to chill. Games are not life.
And for chilling Civ3 is really fine.

I was never a hardcore gamer. I mean I played a lot. But only to have fun not to stress myself.

If I dont like a game anymore I simply start a new one.
Why bother finishing a game when it is no fun anymore. And who the heck tells me to finish a certain game?

[...sigh...]

Y'know, if pianos were designed like the Civ3 interface, there would be no keyboard. Instead, we would have to hold little hammers with our right hands and little dampers with our left.
