More play-style options Remove this text

Currently CIV3 has what I would consider classic CIV style game play: near-linear advances, worker terrain improvement, sophmoric pollution model, single item per city production model, etc.

However, I have seen some people suggesting other game options that might really change strategies & playability. I started this thread because of the "Radical Idea to Reduce Tedium ... Might be Possible" thread. It spawned some interesting ideas.

I think these would all be great togglable options:

1) Advance related terrain improvement
- Advances that automatically improve terrain
- Still allowing user modification to selected improvements
2) Pay-per-segement road construction
- Small cost for construction rather than having to use workers
- Small time delay to allow for construction
3) Improvement based technology bonus
- Requesite number of improvements gives a reduction in discovery time
- Possibly even allowing for a free advance
4) Multiple production option for city
- Seems unreasonable that a size 40 city can only produce 1 thing every year
- Production can be sent to multiple build fields
- This could mean, 1/2 production goes to military and 1/2 to improvements.
- Possibly user designated percentages

All of these could be togglable features, and I think might be reasonable additions to the current model. None of them would take a considerable amount of time to add, I would hope.

Other suggestions are more than welcome.

They can't even take the time to do the right thing and make it MP, and you wonder about this stuff?

Actually, you know, I really wanted multiplayer, but now that I've played and dominated several games, I don't want it.

It would just take too long.

Even on tiny maps, the game just gets tedious.

Here's what happens:
1) I obliterate my opponents on my continent early (even when they respawn)
2) I lose 70% of my army to way underclassed units (sometimes I lose so many times I will even resort to using load)
3) I amass an invasion force for the other islands and continents and I lose more units than I can count
4) I spend endless hours improving land, and cities (albeit in 5 minute segments).
5) I begin to get annoyed with troop/unit movement as well as production/happiness/science/culture of cities. It takes a while when you have more than 30 cities (even worse when you play huge maps)
6) I get to the modern era, and I'm sufficiently set to simply pick a victory type (though, space race and diplomatic are turned off).

So now, I just want to improve game play.

So as for multiplayer, I will never have the patience to play that long with someone that will take 5+ minutes to make turns as well.
Personally, I think it was probably a mistake not to include it, but they were, in the long run, right. This is probably best as a single player game. If someone wants to waste nights with PbE, fine, but I would rather see the games playability improved.

Typical SP thought process.
Rather kick an AI's ass than take on a thinking MP.
Thanks. People like you convinced the makers all would be well.

Well, that's an easy position to take isn't it.

Personally, I would love to play the guy that's sitting next to me at work, but the realization that it would only take the whole day to get to 0 bc is kind of a killer. Even still, I would have loved to try.

I'm also really not the type to walk willy-nilly over the AI. Truth be told, I have lost many games on the higher levels. The problem actually comes in when I actually did get an upper hand. The games that I did actually start to win.

I think it would be great if I could play another human if the time didn't become an issue. However, frankly, it's really not my main concern right now.

What kind of job allows you to play Civ3 with the guy next to you all day, and are they hiring?

Only the best kind

Well, it's lots of alt-tabbing between turns. Lord knows ~10 minutes is good time to write code.

work 10 minutes, play 2, work 10, play 2
