let's see
Oregon has:
great climate (many days by going outside you cannot tell by the weather wether it is in the middle of winter or the middle of summer, no or little snow where people live but good skiing in the mountains, ect)
beautiful mountains
great desert
great beach and ocean
lush and beautiful valley (Willamet)
great city (portland)
great scenery
great forests
great rivers and lakes
it is just beautiful
of course it also has miserable places like my home town and it has too many hicks but the good is much better (best place I have been so far, if only my family did not live there)

Georgia.
The Devil went down to Georgia and he was looking for a soul to steal.
Georgia on my mind
Its the state where the streams flow clean, the dear roam freely, and the air is clean. Most Georgians still believe in southern hospitality and its also in the heart of the Bible belt. Its close enough to the ocean for a short drive to the beach and it also has its own mountain range if you want to go hiking. There aint nothin' quite like peach pie and pretty much everybody takes everything real slow. NO SNOW!!!! and summers very rarely get into anything higher then 95. Just enough rain for the grass to grow real nice and green and we even got us a big city too.(Atlanta). There are lots of trees so you have some shade trees to sit under and we have the claim to fame of the one city with more golfcart paths per capita then any other city in the United
States (PeachtreeCity Ga where you can drive your golfcart up to the local blockbuster to rent a movie and they have golfcart parking spaces at the local grocery stores.)
It was kind of hard to try to type with a southern accent but i sure as heckfired tried. (hehe)
California: too many earthquakes
Texas :too hot and too much desert
Michigan :too cold and too much snow
Florida :too many bad drivers, especially orlando
Kentucky :nice state and beautiful but too far from the beach

Depends on what you are looking for.
California is great if you're young and looking to advance your career. Or you are one of those people that likes all the active "alternative" type sports like surfing or hiking or mountain climbing or snow skiing, etc.
There is pretty much everything you can think of here, also a nice culture with every single kind of immigrant from every corner of the world.
Downsides are that it's expensive and crowded. If you aren't willing to put up with city inconveniences, then it's not the place for you.
If you're looking to raise a family or live a laid back life, this really isn't the place. If I ever had kids I would probably be gone in a heartbeat.
Though I don't want kids so it's all good.
Chicago is great if you like the urban life but not so good if you don't like the cold.
Phoenix Arizona is a great city, the weather is perfect, and it's very cheap and new, growing city.
The South is great but the problem in my and many of my peoples' experience is that they aren't very friendly towards non Southerners. It's almost like the French are towards Americans.
Northwest is very clean and very eco-friendly, but it's too gloomy up there for me. (Cloudy and rainy).
New York is a great place to visit but you have got to be insane to live there.
Washington DC is an AWESOME area to live, super high culture and a nice mix of people, they have urban life or suburbs, and the best metro ever, makes it easy to get around without a car.
Texas is a nice place to live, it's cheap and warm, though if you can't stand humidity you will not like it.
I have also heard that the Carlolinas are great places but I have no experience with them other than a tourist.
Florida also would seem like a great place to live also, long as you don't mind the heat. And unlike the cold ass Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic and Gulf are very warm water.

Hey, Japan has roughly the same pop as the US, and the size of California. If California is too crowded, then it's just bad politics. |
California is too crowded (perhaps) in places like LA, there are not many people living in some parts of the state. I could imagine a city as big as LA being liviable but LA was horrid (I have never actually lived there but I liked visiting Atlanta and Chicago).

Tennessee is fullllll of culture. Most popular music from the last 80 years, Memphis has had a huge impact on it. |
What kind of music?
(I don't know, it's the name: "Memphis". It sounds mystifying to me.) Propably have heard things too about Memphis that I really liked and don't remember them now.
