I'd love to play a Tradewars again; it's been years... but it looks like I missed the bulk of the play and don't see any more recent bangs ... also, with all the talks of "games on the Firaxis server" I sure never see what address and port to telnet to (firaxis.com:23 doesn't cut it)...
Oh well

Beautiful. Spend a full day's turns trading (manually, mind you, I don't feel like paying to register a TWHelper until I know I'm going to be playing TradeWars enough again), build up moderately decently, kill/cap a few aliens to work up the alignment.
Then kill a toll fig just because it was bugging me, lose about half of that alignment gain because the toll fig belonged to a player with an alignment in the billions.
Then, first thing early the following day, take two steps from Stardock and smack into very low percentage NavHaz (christ, when was the damage this did increased from 10 points per percent to more like 50?! I'm still playing based on v1.03 standards.. 100% navhaz would take out a maxed Correllian at the damage I took from 11%!), which then sends my escape pod randomly flying into more NavHaz , losing over half of my remaining XP AND alignment, costing me 2 of my 10 lives, my max hold merc freigh with a trade-in over 100k, and kicking me out of the game the entire day before I go back to work tomorrow and wouldn't be able to play a whole lot for the next 4 days anyway.
So here I am after two days (really after six days since I won't be able to play until next weekend) WORSE off than when I started (a few k in the bank, whee, doesn't make up for losing 1/5 of my "lives" to the dirty tactic the evils are using of strewing navhaz in the SPACELANES between SD and sector 1).
Sweet. Now it's beginning to dawn on me why I quit TradeWars so long ago.
Yes, I density scanned; no, I wasn't particularly worried about 11% NavHaz since in v1.03 TradeWars, the last I played with any degree of seriousness, that would have taken out 110 of my figs and I would've yawned and moved on.. Then I watch 528 damage scroll by, followed by, when my pod fled into an apparently 47% sector, 2256 damage(!) turn my pod into a good impression of a scout pinned down by an interdictor.
Well, now I see why avoids are programmable. Even a battleship would be limping home after three or four 50% sectors...
