Modable? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

I wonder if there is a way to remove the shadow of the population numbers in Civ3 version 1.16f.
Can anyone of the modders here tell me if it is possible to do so?

In my opinion, It would be really nice to have the "old" pop. numbers of v.1.07f together with the (reasonable) changes of v.1.16f.
Below you can see a comparison of the different number graphics.
I just hope one of you can help me with this issue...

Regards,
Dwarf Lord

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Hmm I just tried it and didn't find any button or whatever concerning the shadows.
I think if I knew how to make mods which involve changing the graphics (e.g. those ones at the file-forum which change the looks of the roads), I could propably remove them.

Any clues how to do this?

Regards,
Dwarf Lord

Firaxis was asked about this several times. (See sticky thread at top.) It remains unanswered.

Yes, unfortunately. This circumstance actually made me posting this thread.
I just thought that someone of the community could probably tell me if and how the mysterious shadows can be removed. Someone who is used to modifying the game, or its graphics.
However, my question appears to be quite a difficult one...

And as you already mentioned, Libertarian, Firaxis didn't answer the question yet; so it is a.) unclear if it will be fixed and b.) unclear how much time will pass until the release of the next patch (which, according to a. could fix it)
Thus, my hope is fading.

Dwarf Lord

Put an end to popups!

I wish I could share with you some insight into the rhyme and reason by which they cherry-pick questions that they will answer. I know from experience that defending them and being supportive is no help. Unless they've changed, that is.

One pattern I've noticed is that they seem to go for the questions that only one person is asking, rather than the questions that lots of people are asking. See, for example, the question about the editor versioning, and that sort of thing.

Meanwhile, though literally hundreds of people have asked about things like group movement, we've been told nothing. Willem even suggested that people change what their question is to something else. (He said we're asking the wrong questions.)

Fat lot of help that is, eh?

I think they have recognized that group movement would be useful; maybe they just have problems with realizing it.
Another possibility would be that this feature is saved for the addon. Damned commercialism.

At any rate, some more information about the development status of the game would be essential. It's a pity that the community is neglected in this way.

Actually, what they said at the last chat was that they recognized that we (the players) believe that group movement would be useful, that they (Firaxis) agreed, and that they didn't know whether its implementation were possible. I found that answer acceptable and said so.

Flash forward to now, however, and they do know.

The answer is that you can not change or remove the shadow from the number. It is hard coded that way. The reason they put it in was because when the Civ is red and the city was declining in pop (therefore the number diplays in red) you had a situation where red displays on red which is very hard to see.

BTW;
I find it interesting that Lib never answers questions except to complain about Firaxis not answering questions.

Suffering from ads?

Demonstrably false.

With respect to the shadowed figures, the question went beyond the answer you cited, and asked whether there might not be some solution that didn't rob Peter to pay Paul. In other words, the "solution" simply made the numbers harder to read on every color.

I thought the question was pretty clear, but I'm sure you try to show me the error of my ways or look up some words in your thesaurus to make yourself look right.

I suppose that when an argument fades into fallacy, as yours has, a last resort is to change the subject. Rarely do I use a thesaurus, and when I do, it is to find a simpler word, if one exists. Perhaps the fallacy is endemic to fanboys. Perhaps they believe that, if they cannot understand what the problem is with Civ3, then no one should be having any problem with Civ3.

At least when you need help with a vocabulary word, you have this resource:

But when we need help from Firaxis, where do we turn?

I see - Hard coded, what a pity. And yes, the discussion was slightly off topic. Many thanks for answering the question.

I do know this argumentation, but, to be honest, I just think that the shadows suck in terms of looks and therefore should be removed.
The red on red issue was a minor one and should have better been neclegted instead of the implementation of these regrettable pixel-shadows. That's my opinion.

I too dispise the shadows. If red doesn't show up on red, then don't use red would be my solution, but they didn't ask me. If they must use the shadows I wish that implement them differently.

What fallacy? And what do this have to do with answering a question?
