Important strategic tip :-) Put an end to popups!

I've been wondering about this my whole current game, and I thought I'd share my findings. If you cut down a forest or clear a jungle tile, strategic resources will still appear later in the game. I had a hunch that this was true, but I wasn't sure until I saw rubber on a grassland tile (where presumably there used to be a forest).

This makes it even more important to create special tiles (light forest and light jungle, created by cutting/clearing, can be irrigated or mined, same bonuses as the normal tile) for believability's sake. Rubber comes from trees, right?

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Resources are assigned locations at the beginning of the game when the map is generated.

If you are concerned about rubber not being harvested from rubber plantations, I advise that you assume that a rubber-like substance is found in the ground.

Well, I'm sure I can assume that they didn't cut down every single tree, and once they found out that one particular tree was useful, they started "breeding" it.

So in other words, I should plant a forest and pray? I'll try it.

No no no :-) I'm sorry if I confused you. You can cut down forests and jungles as you choose - actually you should cut them down everywhere except tundra. Forests can be spared until you can build railroads, if you need that shield and can do without that food.

Rubber and other resources found in forests and jungles will still appear, whether the forest/jungle remains there or not.
