My apologies if this has already been made common knowledge, but i just noticed that the Oracle Great Wonder not only doubles the happiness effect of Temples, but also their Culture Points per turn, from 2 to 4. This makes temples on par with many of the great Wonders.
Furthermore, when the Oracles obsoletes, Temples stay at 4 CP per turn.
I suspect the same happens with the Sistine & Cathedrals.
This pretty much solidifies Egyptians as my civ of choice for culture wins.

Is it the Oracle that increased your temple culture points, or simply the age of the temple? (In other words, do new temples start at 4cp?)

You're right, it might have been the age (i generally build the temples far in advance of other improvements). I'll check next game.

Like I said, I checked it out. Yes the Oracle doubles Temple effects, and no they don't stay doubled when it is made obsolete. |
But then the culture will double again when the temple is old enough (with or without Oracle, of course).

I don't understand what you mean about the Temples getting older. I haven't come across anything that indicates they produce more culture over time. I think you might be mistaken here. |
Every culture building produces double the culture after 1000 years, no matter how many turns.

I think the only other things that effect culture output are anarchy (no culture) and mobilization (half culture, only read it, didn't tried)

Anyway, the Point is, if you have the spare production to Build the Oracle, It's still quite a decent wonder, and If you cant get a very good luxury network up quickly, it's a must.
Nearly everything in this game is Circumstancial.

Yeah, I like The Oracle plenty ... it's just hard to get Ancient Times Great Wonders, and you usually have to go for Pyramids & Great Library first.
I do like The Oracle more than The Colossus in Civ3, which I probably wouldn't have said in Civ2. That's certainly circumstantial. On a low-difficulty builder game, The Colossus is great, but otherwise it's pretty lame.
Now that I think of it, I haven't ever built The Oracle in Civ3. If you're playing an easy game, it's almost completely unnecessary, and if you're playing on a hard difficulty, it's hard enough to get Pyramids & GL, and the AI usually gets The Oracle pretty quick.
