	Are the people who use the spam smilies spammers themselves? Suffering from ads?

yeah that's the one I'm talking about.

This isn't a spam thread, but an important philosophical question.

Nah, they're trying to say something meaningful, expressing their emotion by using an emoticon. Of course, unless they attach some text to it, they are being awfully vague about it.

In my opinion, the smiley has three significantly different uses. Firstly the smiley may be used by people who have nothing to say and merely want to annoy others (i.e. "spam". Secondly, in response to this "spamming", people who want to express their personal feelings about the irrelevancy or contentless nature of a certain post may do so by using this very image. Finally, this smiley may be used by a benevolent poster to indicate a part of his post which may either be simply considered irrelevant to the ongoing topic or it may contain superfluous information.
