Well, pikemen are yawning because the game is sooo boring, and riflemen are sneezing because they are allergic to the ugly graphics...

(Sorry about that one, I really like Civ3 a lot, I just could not resist the joke... )

Pikemen yawn because they are waiting for YOU to move them (or anyone) to distract you from thinking the game AI is slow.*

Riflemen sneeze as reference to all the respiratory illnesses soldiers get when at the front. Of course Riflemen had it easy compared to diseases in earlier eras.

* I personally have no complaints re speed of AI moves.

EDIT: Now I have HEARD a Pikeman sneeze when I thought he was yawning -- maybe they do both!!

I think Pikeman yawn cuz it isnt much fun being a pikeman, and rifelman sneeze cuz the gunpowder.
