Do you really think the game will keep people playing for a long time?
I played quite enthusiastically the first three days and then got utterly bored with it.

Reading your comment makes me think how much gaming experience you have...
Let me enlighten you:
Despite not existing an army to control in Theme Park, you still have to successufully manage the money you have; it is, as you said economics, but it's economics strategy! Whatever you do in that game you must have a successful economic strategy!
Now let's talk about Civ. You have several combat units. In order to achieve world domination, you must have a successful warmonging strategy. BUT, in order to do that, you must have a successfully elaborated economic strategy, so you don't ruin your civ's economy with the war effort! This is precisely what you don't consider to be strategy! 
You can't consider not having war in a game to not consider it to be a strategy game!
Grow up, man! And play more game varieties!
