Interesting observation, Diss. Once upon a time, when I was a struggling grad student, I needed a job that would let me study for my comprehensive exams while I worked. The ideal position, which I occupied for 4 fun-filled months, was Adult Bookstore Cashier: aside from occasionally making change and mopping up at the end of the night , I could sit behind the front counter and read to my heart's content. And what that job taught me (among many other things) was that the kind of porn you're calling "Internet porn" was out there in abundance long before the Internet. The difference is that the casual user would never encounter it, because it would never be sold in your local convenience store; you had to go looking for it, generally in a seedy building on th wrong side of the tracks with a big "Perverts Enter Here" sign out front. With the Internet, though, it's actually easier to come across glassy-eyed degradation than Playboy or even Hustler style porn, because the latter is more expensive to produce and thus less likely to be given away free. The Internet hasn't introduced new porn, but it has turned the social logic of porn on its head -- probably because real spaces can have zoning ordinances, but cyberspace can't. Just a thought.
