Hello Remove this text

I bought Civ 3 about a week ago.

I would like to know if there is anyway to speed this game up...cheat,mod,special maps.....something ?

I like the game concept, but its seems to be like watching paint dry....maybe it's just me but how long does it take to get through a single game ????? I feel like I could have built a real civilization faster.

I've been playing my first game and it's been countless hours
and nothing has really happened....I'm up to like 1700 and other than a few minor battles with the Zulus, the rest just seems so monotonous.

I'm not trying to slam the game or anything, just trying to understand.

I guess my main question is concerning the time ?
I think I pretty well understand the basics of the game.... but all the time I can spare on a game is maybe 2 or 3 hours a week ....but at the pace this first game has taken,it seems as if that my take forever.

Play on a small map. The larger the map, the potentially longer your game can be. Plus, why rush it? It's definitely not a 2 hr Age of Empires type game. My current game I have about 20+ hrs in (obviously not all in one sitting). I've got about 35+ hrs in my current EU2 game.

Civ games by nature are loooooong games. That is kind of the appeal to many people. (it is for me anyway) Long term strategy.

Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. Though there is debate on which took longer - building Rome or playing a Civ game. We may never know........

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Play on a tiny map. Don't build more than a couple of workers. Don't expand beyond ten cities. Don't build any improvements that pollute. Turn off all animations.

Enjoy.

Turn off animations, and switch preferences so you don't have to watch units move. Speeds things up a lot.

Other things you can do to spice games up are pick pangaea or continents, deliberate choose aggressive rivals, and play on harder levels. Tech advances more quickly on higher levels and wars are more common. You didn't say what level you're currently on, but you just bought the game and all, so I guessed regent or lower.

Well, youīre not far of the mark there But in regard to the time question; Civ3 is NOT a game which you can play 2-3 hours a week. It takes litterally weeks to finish if you donīt play more often than that.

What you can try is different scenarios that are limited to a certain number of turns, I donīt know if thereīs any good scenarios to Civ3 as there were to Civ2 but thereīs a scenario forum on Poly which you can visit.

The small map/no animation/etc. options could also be of help. But if you still think itīs to long, sorry, then thereīs not much to do really Try a different game like Tiberian Sun or Red Alert 2, there you get separate missions, which doesnīt take that long to finish.

I've been playing a huge map with every civ. I started the game a month ago. I'd say I'd spent 50+ hours on it. (those long pauses between turns gives me time to turn around and do my homework )

Yeah, I remember back in the 70īs. Then you did 36 hours of Pong in one sitting, AND you had to fight your way through 3 meters of snow and packs of starving wolves to get to the cabin where your friend lived.

*sigh* Those were the days...
