Yes - but it's frustrating that many of the innovations seen in SMAC have been lost. It feels like one step forward, one step back. Given that, I enjoy it now and have hope for future developments. One of the reasons why I enjoy Apolyton is watching the game change.

1. No, I'm not stupid enough to actually spend money on a public beta (and a pretty poor one at that).

2. I have done so, but stopped doing it really quickly. One of the reasons (but not the most important one) was because the owner wanted it back

3. Saying that to play Civ3 feels like punishment would be an exaggeration but the same goes for saying that I enjoyed it. But since it can't be modded, what's the point? CtP2 will soon have everything Civ3 has plus a lot more (it already has a lot more, strategic resources and culture are being worked on).

4. To cut a long story short: I played all but ToT (and I modded most of 'em as well to some extend). In other words, I played all Yes, that includes 'other'; too many to mention though, see other people's replies for examples. (What can I say? I've got waaayyy to much free time )

5. If I provide proper arguments, yes. So this particular post isn't
