Fans are "Fanboys", but what should whiners be called? Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Surely you guys don't mind if I try my hand at being boring and divisive for a change, do you?

One good derogative deserves another. For every pro, there must be a con. For every joy, there must be a sorrow. For every Fanboy, there must be a ________.(Please fill in the blank)

Put an end to popups!

Actually, a more precise term than fanboy is sycophant. And thank you, Spec. I am honored if I in any way represent the critics.

So Lib. If someone likes the game, and says so, they have a character flaw? More precise? Pish.

So what are the critics? Psychopaths? Sociopaths? Sophists?

There are indeed no "fanboys". What we have are suckups, apologists, toadies, shills, and, yes, sycophants for Firaxis.

The rest of us are discriminating consumers unwillingly to quietly pay $44.95 to end up as beta playtesters for an unplaytested game.

Well, even though I intended this poll to be humorous, I suspected that it would also attract the more vituperative elements that haunt this forum.

Hey Encomium, since you make it a habit to hurl ad hominem attacks at those who disagree with you, I'm sure you won't mind if someone retorts for a change, do you?

Let me ask you: According to your profile, you were born in 1965? And yet, despite being a 37 year-old, soon to be middle-aged man, you spend your days obsessing over a video game? You average nearly 4 post per day here, and about the same at civfanatics (under the name of Troyens). Isn't that correct?

More disturbingly, however, you spend your days pursuing not something that you derive a great deal of enjoyment from, but rather something that you clearly dislike a great deal. Why would a man of your years do that to himself? It's not healthy.

You know, Emporer Snefix at civfanatics was right, going outside and seeing the sun once in awhile might do you some good.

But then again, I fear that your obsessive hatred of Civ III may be the only thing preventing you from walking into your local McDonald's with a semi-automatic assault rifle and opening up.

Very sad indeed! And if this post gets me banned here, well then that's fine too. Someone had to put this obsessive-compulsive looney in his place.

Have a nice day!

I've come to the conclusion that the whiners care more about their whines than about the game. I found it offensive that they claimed that the patch was their vindication. Now they complain again.

Ah heck, I'm not a Whiner. In fact, I liken myself to Yin in a way. Well, mabye without as many posts.....or repetition of the same arguments.....Ok, nevermind about Yin.

Oh well. The sad truth is that you have your Whiners and you have your Fanboys. Then you have the vast majority of folks in the middle that aren't as vocal as the 20 people hurling insults back and forth that have nothing to actually do with the game, nor changing it.

Could we all get along? Sure. But where's the fun in that?
