It's not based on anything rational, but I take particular glee in seeing the Persians suffer in every game that I play. I'll go out of my way to pick a fight with them if I'm powerful enough, wantonly razing their cities and brutally enslaving their workers whenever possible.

There is, of course, the obvious Persia/Iran link. But to maintain that ancient Persia had anything in common with modern Iran is somewhat of a reach. That's tantamount to maintaining that modern Norwegians are the same as Vikings, or that modern Italians are exactly like their ancient Roman antecedents.

What do you think? Are there any civs that you take a particular pleasure in seeing suffer? If so, then why?

Persians are nuttin' but trouble. If they are nearby, their aggressive behavior is a threat, often a first conquest. If they are on another continent, THEY are likely the conquerors, and are a major competitor.

In my current game, they are the competitor and are trailing me by only 430 points. They wiped out Greece and they have more real estate than I. OTH, I have somehow managed to botch 2 invasions of Persia (now in early Modern era).

I really don't have a preference though. I enjoy killing them all!!! I do try to avoid killing the aztecs. They were the first civ I played, and I have good memories of them. For the same reason I avoid the Japanese. They are my favourite civ. Basically I don't kill like minded civs (religious/militaristic). All of those pansy peace loving french can die.

So egyptians are #1 followed by French, Romans, Germans, and Greeks.

Zulus. Little scampering feet of those Impis can't be trusted. Whenever they've been near enough to be trouble, not only did THEY attack me, but they got one of my neighbors to join in. The war between the Roman legions (me) and the combined horde of the Iriquois horsemen and Zulu impi is THE best memory I have of Civ3... I forever hate the Zulu because of that. And I ain't none too fond of the Iriquois, either...

I usually play as the Americans, and I tend to leave the "culturally connected" feature on, so I'm usually near the Aztecs and/or Iroquois...

I get along just fine with the Iroquois, in most cases (not that I don't usually end up going to war sooner or later), but the infernal Aztecs are always a thorn in my side... I love nothing more than giving them a good whoopin'

Though I'm not much of a warmonger, I have developed a strong dislike for the mean, nasty, demanding Bismarck man. If I start near the Germans, I immediately start thinking about how I'm going to wipe them out.

If I'm going for domination and I only need to capture one more AI empire's worth of land, I would pick Germany over any other AI, unless one of those other AI's had fought me earlier.

Bismarck has attacked me too many times. Think "vendetta" in Civ II terms.

don't worry I will never go soft. If the aztecs or japanese make the mistake of starting on the same continent as me, or settling my continent they will surely feel my wrath.

I forgot to mention the americans. I have thrashed them a couple of times. They are too easy.

I wish to inflict maximum pain on any civ that does not accept Jupiter as the one true ruler of the deities.

And funny accents too, I hate funny accents.

Any civ that has a lot of words and names ending in vowels is worthy to be a vassel though. I try to give them a chance to beg for indulgence before razing their 5 biggest cities.

But, if no one else is handy, I'd dust Bismark in a NewYork minute.

I have a very strong dislike for the French, they are just very annoying. They complain when I encroach upon their space, yet they continually violate our no-passage agreements, and send their troops unto MY territory [Anything that's not France] . Ahhhh, there is nothing like a toasty warm morning in Paris, after i've just let loose several nukes

I also like making it difficult for the Americans, just because of that stupid hat they made Abe lincoln wear - and what the HECK does he have to smile about anyway! Since I play the Russians I take great pleasure in razing all my conqoured American cities.

Is this the HATE thread?

My favourite to wipe out have always been the Zulus since Civ2... Arrogant, barefoot *******s that always seem to build up alliances against me!
When I start a war against them I make sure it's a TOTAL war and it goes on and on until they are left with one crummy city in the middle of nowhere... I then proceed to encircle it and consider them my slaves for the rest of the game. If Shaka has the audacity to even ask me *once* to get out from his territory, I bombard his city numerous times... Then if I get the bomb I'll nuke it repeatedly!

I have also developed a disliking for the Iroquois and the Aztecs, more recently though, and not as strongly. Out of tradition I'll be sure to always treat the French, the ENglish, the Germans and the Russians as my friends, unless they provoke me into a war. I'll then only take one city from them and sue for peace right after.

PS: I know I'm weird!!

Can't stand the Aztecs. Honestly, it is their unpronouncable city names. I like to victimize them just to rename their cities...

Also, the Persians always seem to be dicks to me, so I give them the same treatment...

France just seems a bit arrogent. I don't _want_ war with them, it just happens...

I've hated the Zulus since Civ I. Little green bastards would attack me just for fun, even if the obvious move was to go against their other neighbors. I don't know how many times I played the Babylonians just to be sure I didn't have to see the Zulus.

The Russians were no prize, either -- Stalin with that nasty, mass murdering smile. But for my money, when I see Zulus, I immediately militarize before they get me.

On the other hand, I'll happily set up shop right next door to Egypt pretty much forever. Their speical unit is worthless after about 25 turns, and they tend to go into a pacifist shell. I think the only time I've ever attacked them was when they had utterly blocked off my land grab early on a sardine continent.

The americans . They do not deserve to be in with the rest of the 6000 year old civs . They must have got in by some mistake ! But don't worry , I've taken it upon myself to fix whatever errors the game designers might have made .

The French die in every single one of my games. Occassionally, I let them live to the modern age but only so that I can nuke them. I don't why, but I just hate the French. Shelly Long...erm Joan are just so damn annoying, always encroaching on my territory or ruining Sam in the reruns. ::Grr::
