The courthouse. Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Do courthouses work?? I have DL the patch and played a game until a bug caused me to start over. But I want to know if the courthouses have been fixed? Or does corruption still run rampant in the game?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Courthouses have not changed. They work, as they always did, marginally reducing corruption.

By default, corruption is intended to be rampant.

You have many options to change this in the editor.

Got spare money?

Interestingly the few times I have actually built courthouses in my cities, the corruption was not reduced at all (this was a city about 50% corrupt already). Does anyone know how much effect exactly they have on corruption?

I don't believe it! Sir Ralph actually suggests making changes in the editor? What's this world coming to?

Well if the city is to far from the Palace, a courthouse will have very little effect on corruption. Unfortunately, the game doesn't spell out exactly how much they reduce the corruption or allow for any adjustment.

It works. I ran a test on a city a considerable distance from my capitol. The city had 14 corrupted commerce, and once the courthouse was built the corruption was reduced to 12. *SIGH*I guess something is better than nothing.

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

When building your Forbidden Palace in a 1-shield city without a leader, a second shield is worth 100 turns (assuming the cost reduction to 200 in 1.17 is right, didn't check it yet).

Edit: , do courthouses have influence on waste too?

Woah, that was fast! Almost like instant messaging.

OK, my approach is to create different versions of the Forbidden Palace, based on government forms. Now that the Gov specific buildings only work for the gov selected, it adds some interesting possibilities. Also, you can add Reduces Corruption to all the religious buildings. After all, a sense of morality goes a long way to making people honest. You can also change the number of optimal cities in the World sizes area. I prefer to not use this approach since it will also benefit the AI. And if I at least have to build something, it provides me with more of a challenge, especially if there are some requirements, like another building I need first.

'It works. I ran a test on a city a considerable distance from my capitol. The city had 14 corrupted commerce, and once the courthouse was built the corruption was reduced to 12. *SIGH*I guess something is better than nothing.'

Thing is, that's so weak it's not really even worth building the improvement, when you take into account maintenance costs. Better to build 'wealth', or build marketplace/bank/whatever. Shame we have another useless improvment on our hands.

'Well if the city is to far from the Palace, a courthouse will have very little effect on corruption. Unfortunately, the game doesn't spell out exactly how much they reduce the corruption or allow for any adjustment.'

But if it's close, then there is no real need for the courthouse. The cities I build them in weren't 1 shield production cities either, but the effects were virtually nil.

Increase Your PM Length

Actually I read on another thread in this forum that court houses improve in their corruption reduction as time goes by. Next time try not only noticing how much corruption is eliminated right after it's built but after say 10 turns. I think you'll be surprised.

If that is true then that would make them much more valuable. But how powerful can they get? It would be great to know some stats.

Inflate your Upload Space

If you have one (all alone) city far from your palace the corruption will be really high, but if you get lot's of cities in the same spot far from your palace also, the corruption will be a lot less. And if on top of that you have Police stations and Courthouses, the corroption in your cities should not be over 50%.

That's not to hard is it!!

Also, they reduce the effects of propaganda, so there will be less chance of a culture flip if an enemy civ decides to use that against you.

Re: Put an end to popups!

I don't really worry about culture flips. I play as the Babylonians aka culture whores. But I do need that corruption reducer. It makes no sense to have a fringe city at size 12 in a democracy giving me one shield of production and one commerce.

There's corruption and then there's corruption. Normal corruption can be countered with improvements and other types of government, but corruption due to too many cities can never be allieviated unless you change the optimal number of cities in the editor.

I've never had a problem with corruption, because I know how to use my tools
