They don't like my Taxmen! Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

I noticed when I first started playing the game that quite often creating a Taxman actually made the citizens of a city more happy than before. This didn't make any sense to me since no one likes taxes, it's a necessary evil we tolerate for the good of our society. So while fooling around with the citizens in my mod, I discovered that their bonuses can be set to negative values. So I tried having a number of -2 luxuries for all my Taxmen.

Well sure enough, my citizens don't like him nearly as much now. I might even have to lose 1 gold per turn to hire an Entertainer to keep them happy. I hope I still have enough left to pay my Scientist 2 gold per turn to help my research efforts.

That's an interesting approach, have you changed the output of the taxmen as well?

Yes, that was one of the first things I changed. Rather dumb only producing 1 gold, when he could be working in a field growing food as well. They now produce 3 gold. So I guess if I have both an Entertainer and a Scientist, my specialists will be breaking even. But I'll have an Engineer and a Programmer coming up later that will let me show an overall profit.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

I have thought of setting Taxmen and Scientists to give really high outputs, like 3-5 oins/beakers. That would make the player having to decide whether to concentrate on growth or productivity.

I also would prefer to call Taxmen "Merchants".

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Well the problem with having more than 3 is that the graphics are wider than the head, so the gold will run into the beakers, or whatever. To me it looks like crap.
