Celebration and Christmas time Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

First of all, here in Italy time (GMT+1) it's already Christmas, so I wish you the best, for all of you.

But it's not my use to make OT post without some kind of "lifesaver" argument, so I'm trying to link here a real minor proposal for Civ 3.

In real life some events (historical relevant birthday or great achievement) are celebrated every year or every hundred years. The former is impratical in Civ for obvius reason, but how do you think of the latter as a "calendar" of historical events celebrated that turn?

Let me explain: supposing you build a great wonder or achieve a "minor wonder" (if they'll be implemented) as the discover of a main continent in the year (game time) 1610 A.D. you can suppose that in the year 1710 A.D. someone will celebrate the event (that year only) gaining some limited bonus (two more happy citizen for that turn, or a bit more money).

Prerequisite should be The Calendar "tech" discovered or, if the celebration is related to a religion event, at least matching the year of Religion (politheism, monotheism, etc.) discovered, if a better religion model will miss the Civ 3 boat.

Reply and better ideas are welcommed, also if every one know that was only an excuse to fit this post here passing a deserved reprimend by the moderators

Merry Christmas again.

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

LOL! I have to say, that was one of the most creative posts to avoid a reprimand ever. =) Actually, not a bad idea...

But Merry Christmas, Admiral Naismith.

To add to your idea, certain discoveries should be SO great the whole world (or most of the world) changes its diplomacy a bit during important times. For example, waging war during Christmas should hit you with big morale penalties, etc. Similarly, if you attack a country during their holy holiday season, their outrage should give them greater attack bonuses, etc.

Thank you Yin

To keep up with the "cover" idea just a bit more: of course events in Civ game can't be celebrate every year, as Christmas in real world. I was thinking more about "Christian Jubilee" or "fifth centennial of Columbus' America discovery".

They can be a bit silly, but I'm in favour of little nice touches in game, so... who know?

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Actually, you could make this more of an "Easter egg", similar to Eric's Ultimate Solitare. Several of the Delta Tao games have little holiday related surprizes: a Chrismas Tree appears in Dark Tower; Christmas Trees, Jack-O-Lanterns, Presidents, MLK, hearts etc. appear on the playing cards in Solitare depending on date. Something similar might happen in Civ: snow on trees, appropriate event messages, Caravans replaced with Santa/sleigh for the day.

Fun, but useless suggestion....
