New scenario Project Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

While I'm working on my scenario on German-East Africa, which will be a strategical/tactical guerilla campaign, I'm also going to pick up work on something else. I've got a number of interesting ideas, but I've no idea which one would be the most interesting, and the most rewarding for both the players and myself. My attempts to discover the preferred scenario type (i.e. empire-building, war, etc.) by checking the statistics on my site led to much confusion (BTW, a visitor number of 1341 in an era where Civ2 is supposed to be dead is quite interesting...). So, I'm gonna ask openly and right here which of these projects (if any) appears to be the most interesting... If any more detailed descriptions of my ideas are required, I'd be happy to post it.

I forgot to activate the poll option, so I'm gonna do it 'manually' here...

1. Rise of Carthage: An empire building game based in the western Mediterranean, about the rise of Carthage. (ca. 900-264 BC)
2. Age of Cimon: An empire building/conquest game about the expansion of Athens in the eastern mediterranean at the cost of the Persians and Spartans. (478-431 BC)
3. Hawaii:A naval-based scenario about empire building in Hawaii (some new topic, I think), and the interference of the Europeans/Americans in the 18th century. Alternately something about the Polynesian cultures in the South Sea and the interference of the Europeans.
4. Iran-Iraq War: A tactical war scenario about the war between Iran and Iraq between 1980-88.
5. Something about Rome , perhaps Rome in Gaul and Germania, or the civil war between 193 and 197 AD, or the rise of the Goths
6. Any other ideas?

I kind of like the sound of number 3 although I'm not quite sure how you'd scale it. ie: You have an absolutely huge ratio of water to land.
Unless it was set just around the Hawaiian (Sandwich) islands perhaps?

Well Stefan, if you DO end up doing an Iran-Iraq scenario, feel free to drop your local Arab an e-mail with any questions. You know how much I love the subject criteria.

Personally, i'd like to see some more scenarios based in Central Asia or Siberia. Maybe a really nice version of my Khanates scenario where you can take up one of the crumbling Khanate empires after the death of Kublai Khan in 1294 lasting until Ivan IV's conquest of Sibir (considered by some Mongolian historians as the last Khanate) in 1584. Someone like you could take that idea and do something I can't - add in the extensive artistic talent and design.

As you can tell, I love Mongol history as well.

A scen about the Goths would be tough to do tho, IMO. Considering their history and dispersion across nearly ALL of Europe.

You have to consider that they started out in Gotland (Sweden), settled Poland, were pushed into the Danube, Italy and Spain by the Huns, and broke up into the Visigoths (Good Goths) and Ostrogoths (Eastern Goths).

It'd be hard (but quite fun) to simulate that in a scenario.

Warvoid: I thought Visigoth meant "Western Goth" as opposed to "Eastern Goth"? Also, it would be cool, but probably nearly impossible. Because the player would have no control over where to go and if there were random factors, it would be hard to design.

ANZAC, there's a bit of a historians dispute over whether Visi means "good" or "western". The term "Good Goth" stems from the Visigoths alliance with Rome to fight the Ostrogoths. I dunno which is correct since i've seen both used just as frequently.

Concerning the scenario. You could use the MOVEUNITS function to simulate migration of the Goths from say Gotland to the mainland. Then again to the Danube, and so on until they reach Spain. At the same time, it could use the CREATEUNIT and MOVEUNIT function to simulate the buildup of the other barbarian tribes that pushed the Goths westward.

The objective therein could then be to a.) hold on to the cities where your units were just displaced from, and b.) to capture enemy cities from where your units were moved to (before your other cities are taken).

Perhaps i'm over ambitious, but that sounds very cool.

You forgot to mention the Gothic War in Italy...

That war was the main cause of Italy's decline in early middle age.

No No No, not Goths!!! Iran-Iraq, say it with me people, Iran-Iraq Aw screw it!
I just think that the Goth scenario would be damn near impossible with in the Civ2 engine. You would have to start the scenario after they split since Civ provides no way of doing this on its own. The only thing I can think of is if you let there be a schizm after their capital is taken and you make all availible options (i.e. you name all other unused tribes) the ostrogoths, but if I remember correctly the cities that rebel and splinter off are picked at random are they not? Oh, crap I do believe I am rambling.

The current status is four votes for the Iran-Iraq War, three for Hawaii and three for the Goths, two for Carthage...

I was thinking of a Goths scenario starting in 375 AD, when the Goths had to migrate from the Ukraine because of the invasion of the Huns.
But let me put it this way: If you're challenging me, I can, and will do one about the migration of the Goths from Sweden through Poland (they settled around Gdansk for a while, at least according to Heinz Rühmann ) to the modern-day Ukraine and so on.
I am absolutely sure there is, there has to be a way to simulate this, and I will look very hard for this...
But since Iran/Iraq is in the lead, that might not happen (j/k)

Since the Visigoths outlived the Ostrogoths (and because they were, after all, the Good Goths ) you could simulate the schism by creating a massive amount of barbarian units representing the Ostrogoths when the time they broke apart comes around. Simple solution.

Also, I forget where I read it, but at one point, the Goths had an empire stretching from the Baltic to the Black Seas. I have been unable to find where they administered this empire from but AFAIK, it was still out of Gotland (Visby). The only other places I can think would have been Vilna, Kiev or Danzig (not Gdansk infernal Germans! ).

Would be neat to do a Polynesian scenario. Start as warring tribes in the South Pacific, see if you can get to New Zealand and Hawaii!

Would require a whole new map, and new concepts.

Or you can focus a particular islands' group... Marquises ( there were plenty of civil wars between their clans ), Hawaii ( Kamehameha, the first king that unified them - a hint: search on the web for Herb Kane; this hawaian artist is specialized on hawaian history ), or Easter Island ( civil wars here, too ).

What kinda ocean... Why they named it Pacific ... Bloody would have fit better... As Vico said once, "... è tutto un ribollir di guerre." .
