Cities, and your Capital. . . Suffering from ads?

I want the cities more realistic! Depending on their size, spread over 1-5 squars. In civ 2, the cities look like factories. And when a city is Nuked, make it looked nuked! Also, when you build a new improvement, make it show on the map. I've heard of a suggestion from someome else, I thought this might be kinda neat, to split each city into sections. One section would be Resedence, another, Business, another, Military, and Government, and maybe more. And a cities food supply, make it so that you have to build food supply lines that run to and from the city to food recources. And when an enemy attacks, they can destroy the food line, and put that city under siege.
When you go to attack a city, a screen pops up, asking if you wish to attack immediately, or lay siege. When you lay siege, another menu pops up, this one asking how many catapults you wish to build (I think catapults shoul be used only to knock down city walls, and maybe a couple of improvements). You may choose up to 10 catapults, and when they are done, you attack. Catapults should not be able to attack units.

Capitals - Make them more then just your first city! make then your CAPITAL!! Where your government headquarters are. Every 10 years or so, (when under democracy or republic) there is a government meeting held (like the high council). where the senate gives you advice, where you may make new laws, and you may ask advice from the senaters. You should also be able to bribe senaters. I have a suggestion, which I think would be great. In your capital, add a button, (like the "Change production" button. you would say "ORDER DRAFT". you would click on this, and a screen would pop up, listing all of your cities. you would click on a city, then another menu would pop up. this would list all of the units you can build. then you choose a unit, and how ever many units you wish that city to build. and you would do this with all of the cities that you wish to order the Draft in. Note that all the units would be created through the draft, are taken out of the population of the cities. Every 2 units would deduct 1 population point.

Add a leader unit, that would be you. HE would travel the kingdom, and each city he would stop in the happyness of that city would go up as long as you are in that city. He would also have to attend every Government meeting held at your capital. He could also be assasinated, by the Spy. This would be a new option to add to the spy, and it would be very risky, and very unlikely that the spy would succeed (like palnting nuke).

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I would like to see cities covering many tiles as they grew. I would also want real pop' numbers.
To prevent this becoming a micromanagement nightmare I suggest using a menu similar to that of Windows Explorer. You would have various broad categories and subcategories of attitudes, ethnicities and happiness values, allowing you to easily narrow down your search for, say, a dissident in the city.

Workplace could be a category as well. EG, if you build a factory in one of your cities, the factory worker career would show up in the menu.

I think that this system (if implemented properly) could provide extra realism without the expense of fun.

Tell me what ya think, until then,
C-YA!!

Tim White, I like your idea of drafting units at the expense of population points, so long as growth is boosted to compensate for this.
How about, rather than have a spy assasinate a leader or general or mayor, have a hitman unit who has a very high probability of success. Keep the assasinate ability for the spy as well, just make sure -as you said- that he's not very good at it.

Concerning your ideas about cities, I agree that they should have district areas. In the city screen, you should have a view of your city just like the ordinary view, except that you can click on an induvidual tile (only if cities cover multiple squares) and choose a name for it, multiple squares with the same name become the same district and also become specialists in certain areas, depending on what sort of improvements are present in the district. For example, an area with a lot of factories or mills or automated factories will produce gradually more and more production.
