How to get the CIVs to like you Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Here's a simple strategy to try that work for me. First put everything into science that you have to to get the smallest number of turns to discover something, but still getting the greatest amount of cash back. If you check every turn, and reset it to 100% science (even if you're loosing cash) after a discovery, you'll stay ahead of the game.

First go for Literacy and have a big city start building the Palace before you get there. When you discover Literacy (guess what) switch the palace to the GREAT LIBRARY. After you discover Literacy, pick a tech line to follow and only go after that line, that way you'll be heavy on certain techs while the computer is well rounded-you get all the computer's techs of course when you finish the great library.

During this time, make sure to develop lots of culture, and talk to the other civs all the time. Keep trading with them, even if it's just world map for 2 gold. Occasionally give them a territory map for free!

As soon as the GREAT LIBRARY is finished you are on top of the world! You can now sell techs the computer doesn't have in exchange for GOLD PER TURN. This will enable you to keep your techs coming as fast as they can, but still getting plenty of money. Just stay ahead of the game, remember to develop Republic ASAP and Democracy very soon in the game and if the computer feels INTIMIDATED by you, they'll like you-especially when you're nice to it.

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Im not sure if its a patch thing, but all my old games (previous to 1.17f) ended in all out war, but now I seem to manage peace so much better, by simply giving the AI a small and meaningless gift occationally .. It seems to work for me on all levels ..

Good idea about the Great Library, id not thought of that, I tended to pick science as and when I needed it ..

However, word of warning .. your assuming your in contact with lots of civs (I always seem to start in the middle of everybody, so it will usually work) .. but if you find yourself miles away .. this would be useless, as I believe the Great Library only gives you sciences from civs you've contacted ..

I like the idea of using gold per turn to subsidise your science expense, so you can maintain a low tax base .. very good idea indeed ..

Just beware of the Zulu's .. those back stabbing rats .. ha ha ha ..

I never have problems with civs not liking me. They always like me! When I have a new tech which is not really important. I trade it to all of them and accept whatever they offer.

When it doesn't really matter anymore I often give away my territory maps for free or sometimes just offer them a luxury I do not need.

Problem is that they keep asking me for exorbitant prices which I sometimes just have to agree with (in case of resources for example). But otherwise, there is no civ that ever disliked me.

Unless I start a war of course... which I frequently do... If I'm strong and they are weak
