Tropico 2 announced! Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Yep, when there's money to be had, you can bet a sequel is on the way. It's about pirates this time.

Sounds Interesting... Full PM-box? Change here!

I'm looking forward to finding out more about it... that wasn't a very descriptive preview, and doesn't really give me a very good image of how they expect the game to be. But it sounds good none the less.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Tropico is one of the few games I've returned to the shop in recent years. It looked quite promising but the need to chain construction huts across the island and the absurdity of insisting every building has to be built on flat land drove me crazy. There are so many examples of hilly cities we shouldn't allow this computer game myth that slopes are impossible to build on persist. The previews also hyped up the ability to zoom in and talk to your individual citizens which turned out to be pretty one dimensional in the final game. The premise of Tropico 2 looks quite fun but if it uses the same game engine I won't be buying.

What got me were 1) things they didn't tell us 2) details in the wrong places

Details in the wrong places are things such as construction offices. What's really stupid was the *cough*"simulation"*cough" counted the distances where construction workers have to go between construction sites and contruction offices instead of construction sites and their homes as if they sleep in the offices. It doesn't help that the citizens don't ride bicycles and there's no way to develop a mass transport system.

Things they didn't tell us include how constructions of various structures affect each other. Some of these changes doesn't make any senses at all, such as the constuction of housings affect rainfall on a particular patch of land

Perhaps when you build houses they automatically use plumbing by "sucking up" the water in the soil. It's not that rainfall changes but that the water is drawn out of the soil, plus people trod around their houses alot, thus affecting overall the use of the soil for farming. Convoluted I know but it is one explanation.

Maybe the spearmen from Civ 3 live in the houses, and drink all the rainwater to give them that 'fighting edge' against tanks...
