me too

and here's some pics, I just want to explain how the tree's work, the very dark tree's are on the tundra, the very autumn-y colour are the plains tree's. I did the african plains, dead-looking but live tree's that you see scattered here and there but they just didn't work well.

also, I am about... 95% done, and I am losing my free internet connection (yes here in wonderful NZ we have free internet connection, but they're going down April 1st ).

But I will be back with a new one and with some webspace to upload my work too.

looks good but the river is not too river-ish if ya catch my drift - a trifle too blue and a trifle too thin maybe.
anyway my 2cents

hehe, yeah I didn't realise that river was showing down below, the rivers I have I am still working on, they will have a nice dark green bank, that looks grassy, with tree's, and maybe some floral crap, but not too much, rocks too aswell, I haven't got around to rivers yet but I will shortly.

Tired of ads?

Sn00py

I look forward to seeing and using all of your hard work. I have one small point. Why are there thick dark forests on the Tundra? Having trod around up there, I can safely say that it doesnt look like that.

"The word tundra derives from the Finnish word for barren or treeless land. The tundra is the simplest biome in terms of species composition and food chains.

Vegetation: lichens, mosses, sedges, perennial forbs, and dwarfed shrubs, (often heaths, but also birches and willows)"

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

yah I know, the reason I haven't made it barren looking is because neither did Firaxis basically. I like the fact that the forests merge together so well also, and I wanted to keep that, but you need to know what is under the forest and the only way I could really do that is to make the tree's darker. I think its ok, fits with the pine tree's also.

Taiga Remove this text

Thanks for the link SpencerH.

On the same site is information about taiga (from the Russian word), which is the boreal forest, which "exists as a nearly continuous belt of coniferous trees across North America and Eurasia."

That page can be found here. It has an illustration of the sparse forest.

Seems like this is what Firaxis had in mind, not tundra.

Extract it to your /Art/ directory and overwrite all.

The first file in the zip will replace the circle with a tick, which is the icon that is for when want to issue an OK command. And also changes the x slightly.

The rest of the files in the terrain directory will overwrite most of the terrain files.

There are a few I have not gone over yet, and that's the jungle mountain, waterfalls, forest mountain and jungle hill.

I haven't included the cities yet because there's still more to do, but it's almost done.

This file is 3megs big roughly. For people who feel like 'beta testing', download it and please let me know how it goes, I suggest that the rest of you don't use these graphics until people who have tested it respond with any problems, so that I can fix them.

can you email it to mizaq@u.washington.edu ? I can put the beta test up on my site for a few days until a bunch of people have it and you want me to take it down. You could also try uploading it to the civfanatics file server. try it in two pieces if you have to. the forum upload size is 500k for apolyton and 300k for civfan but I think the civfan file server can take 3mb files.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Sn00py, I had a question and a bug report for pine forests.

I was wondering what those logs are in pine forests, they don't fit in very well.

On tundra those pine forests seem to sometimes show a green border.

here are two images:

I don't know, the logs would probably look okay if they were blended into a set of trees. I think, anyway.

looks good... though I'd halve the number of tress that line the river banks, they dot the river a bit too frequently

Otherwise, much better than the original graphics

yes there are a lot of tree's on the rivers, but you'll find that when the river passes through tree's it doesn't look like its floating on top as much and I think that's more than enough reason to keep them.

I will remove the logs

they show up in jungles too though.

I know I mentioned this elsewhere, but I very much like the new water colors and the coast. Diverse mountains are cool too. But really, I like the water the best.

I think maybe the snow on the mountains could be brighter, as it stands now there isn't much difference between regular mountains and snow covered, it's very subtle. That may have been what you were shooting for though. However, my opinion comes from the sect that will play only with your retro-graphics once they are finished (someone called them Zeldaish).
