I think the distinction may have disappeared in recent years. At my (RC) wedding last year, when we got to that bit, I shut up and the rest of the congregation carried on. Whoops...

When the leadership of the United States represents my views, needs, and values, then I will pledge allegiance. I refused to say it when I was in school because at that time Reagan and Bush were president. If this trend of convervative leadership continues into the future, I will instruct my children to refuse to say the pledge.
Although, if I were a dictator I would force people to pledge allegiance. Freedom just allows me to be a hypocrit.
