Preview of Pikeman Mod Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I'd like some feedback on the preview of this graphic mod. I'll probably change from the 2nd row halberdier to a crossbowman (courtesy of Dark Sheer) or a maceman (possibly) depending on the direction (just for some variety).

Full PM-box? Change here!

Thanks.

I wanted to comment that I'll be using this for a Swiss (or German) UU. Swiss Pikeman dominated the european battlefields for 200 years and were strongly offensive units capable of attacking armies ten times their number and winning. Their military dominance ended with the effective use of cannon.

It looks nice, would look even nicer if the top and bottom pikemen weren't doing the exact same simultaneous movement, but I'm probably just talking about doing something which I know nothing about...

Thanks for the comment. Its exactly what I'm asking for. I'd rather have suggestions for changes now with only one direction done than with the whole unit completed. I think you're right about the simultaneous motions. It was why I offset the timing of the halberdier.

I think the shadow of the halberdier is as if the sun comes in another direction then for the others.

The shadow is strange. After looking at it so ling I wasnt sure if I was seeing things. The funny part is, it must be like that in the original.

You can see the same shadow movements in the other parts of the flc. Its the halberdier moving his weapon left to right as well as up and down. The pikemen have less of that motion so their shadows are different from his.

I've looked at this again, and I think its an error in the original shadows that you dont notice with a single figure. Anyway I've modified the halberdiers shadow appropriately.

While I usually go for alot of varieties in most of my new unit animations, I thought it would be kind of strange if a group of pikeman does not attack in unity.

An effective group of military unit work in great order and not chaos.

Dark Sheer, thanks for the comments.

I agree, its kind of the whole point of pikemen and formations that I'm trying to convey with the graphic. I'll offset one of the pikemen by one frame in some of the directions just for a little variety. The 2nd row unit will remain different since these represent the mobile troops that moved between the pikemen to assault the "fixed" enemy formations. I plan to include your crossbowman graphic if thats Ok with you.

I never have any problem with people using my unit animations. Feel free to do so.

If you include all three men, won't they look funny next to other units? I would think they would look like midgets, or be hard to see.

Also, Sheer, if you see this, I dl'd your Crossbowman a few weeks back, and a couple of the flcs are messed up. Their background is solid when it should be transparent, and vice versa. It would also be better if you could alter its resting pose to something more different from the Pikeman.

No they dont look like midgets. It would be fun to use them as dwarves if they did. Each man in the group is exactly the same size as the original Pikeman. As a matter of fact, I just used it in a game as the flc for a colourless mercenary unit in a heavily mod-ed game I'm trying. It looked quite good! So I'll try to speed up the work.

Yup, the original crossbowman flc got a little mess up on the transparency (hey, it was the second flc made by me back then ). You can get the corrected version towards the end of the thread on Civfanatics.

No matter, I can actually paste it here.

Suffering from ads?

Dark Sheer

Do you know of any easy way to select an exact outline of a graphic in PSP. I cant get the magic wand to do it, it always selects the background colour instead (which neatly oulines the figures but I cant grab them).
