...when you know that a thread should be locked because it's well over the 500 post rule.

However, instead of locking it, could Ming, Mark or Dan just delete all the posts that don't have a "...because of this or that" in them? Just get rid of all the needless posts. I won't even ask for you to delete the duplicated posts
