A few dedicated players and I are currently in dialogue to create league play again, whether in the form of the revival of Gameleague or the startup of a private league. Of the two, I wanted to share my thoughts on the latter and let you know what we think.
First, I wanted to discuss some benefits of having a ladder. I joined the Gameleague ladder rather unassumingly about a year ago. Ever since then, I developed a certain passion for this game, mainly to play better and to spend more time on it. I developed as a player more quickly than if I would have had I just played it casually. Of course, ladder play does have its downside - cheating, ppl's competitiveness and the consequent jealousy, to name a few. However, I think that the benefits really outweigh the latter.
A few players and I believe that a private ladder would take many advantages of a ladder and eliminate some of its problems as well. The basic ideas is that you start with core members, and decisions such as adding a new player to the pool are decided by a vote, 2/3 of the members passing an approval. New players are added based on player recommendation. At the cost of slow expansion, we believe the league may be able to filter out cheaters and annoying characters (hmm. who would that be).
I'd like to hear some thoughts about this from the ol', inflexible (?) polytoners (hehe), as well as the more "newbie" types as well.

This coming from a guy who accuses me and drfell of cheating all the time...yet who plays with people like kuja and willingly accepts them as "good" players even though he has recently been proven to cheat....again. As for the jealousy part, I assume you're referring to yourself? Yes, you are perfect to run a ladder. If anyone should run a ladder it should be cavebear.

That would never ever work. People have suggested something like that before and it has failed completely. And again, you associate and willingly accept cheaters and you have the gall to accuse others of cheating? You are a hypocrite and a liar and if you were to create a ladder then civ2 would be in bad shape. Please someone do us all a favor and create a ladder so that the unfortunate possibility that robbie will make one will never happen.

Dr. Fell reported a false win against me in Gameleague. Go check out the gameleague site yourself. In the words of Ming, that is cheating, pure and simple. You do the math. As for "accusing" you of cheating, lol, what is there to accuse when you have admitted to the very deed openly in these forums?
As for playing with Kuja and Bud, I play with who I like, period. They have social skills, something you so definitely lack, and I have fun playing with them. So what? Mind your own business and stay out of it.
You once offered me to teach me everything you knew if I helped you bring down Ateam, aka Strategicking, and just yesterday, you offered Bud to teach him everything you knew if he helped you bring down Kuja. But once, you offered Kuja the same deal, if he agreed to be your b*tch. And reportedly, EdmundSpenser got the same deal. And the list goes on and on.
Like a cheap whore, you sell your services and ultimately people dump you for who you are. A cheap whore and nothing else who is so bent on destruction and defamation.

Nope, it's not going to begin. That's it. All the old players are gone and they don't care about the game anymore, therefore I don't care about the game anymore. I've played a few games of civ in the past few months and that's it. I'll probably just eliminate those couple games a month to nothing and just focus on age of empires. Best sign of a dying game is when cheaters can get away with what they do. Civ2 was never really alive to begin with. Even at civ2's height age of empires had 100 times as many players online as civ2 did. Now it's down to a few new players on the zone. Unless all the old players come back, which is never going to happen, I'm not coming back. If you guys see me online, it's probably drfell. I gave him the passes to all my names. Rah, that was drfell you talked to the other night, not me. hehehe Fell, sorry, but don't log on my name anymore. There's no point to it. There's not enough people left still playing the game.

And no, its not private, being at myleague the scoring system sucks bigtime but IMHO its better then nothing.

Thats why you were talking in zone 2 days ago about all the old players comming back and calling everybody else cheaters, it was kinda fun though, just seeing the whole zone basicly telling you to **** off, and then you opening a second ZF and pretending to be kaak :LOL:
Man, you're the most pathetic little (Word edited by MING --- take the hint) I've seen in a long time.
Over the last year all you did for this game was trying your best to destroy other people's fun in playing competitive on civfan, Tribes etc.
And yes the offer Robbie was talking about you made to me too, becomming my 'mentor' if only I would turn against Strate, a guy that has thought me more about this game then you and your strategy guides ever did. ( you did gave me a few good pointers on horsierace to be fair)
But face it eyes, if a **** player like me can beat you 3 times in a row on your own settings, how good are you then ??? Two of the 3 games you hosted btw, and after loosing you started to whine for an hour about luck........
But at least your always cheap entertainment

Whatever, I'm not going to denounce half of what you guys say for the lies that it is since that will lead to the usual wars on the forum. That was Kaak yesterday, and I don't have 2 computers. Kaak hasn't used his old name Kaak since his return 2 years ago...he can't remember the password. So he now uses the_kaak. He is also the reason I have given up on the game and decided not to waste my time on it anymore. So send all your thanks to him.

sounds to me like there is still interest in a league. i think with a responsible core group of players, we can keep the ponces out. in the simpsons, sprigfield residents declare "shinanigans" and the townspeople take the law into their own hands, pummeling the shitdisturbers. we could just mutiny against the offending league member and boot them out. thusly the 2/3 of the vote rule. that way there is a comfortable majority agreeing to banish the offending member. You can count me in!!

If there is a new league, which I would be interested in giving a chance, I would like to see it become something other then a ladder system. This is not meant as a cut to Atawa's league, I'm having alot of fum in it. I just don't think your ladder rung has much to do with your relative abilities compared to othersin the ladder.
