This is totally ridiculus, in my entire life I have not run across a game that takes so much time to get working.
First its released way before it was ready (yeah yeah, market smarket....if your product isnt complete dont try and sell it!). Then they quickly released a patch (gee thanks guys, that only made things worse!). Again, another patch released.....(and again it doesnt solve my problems).
you want to hear my problems....well they have all been mentioned several times over.
1. Took me forever to get the game to run on winXP after installing it....finally figured that out so it runs.
2. Now that I get it to run and I actually play it...whoa!....far too many bugs, mis-spellings and general lack of TESTING is quite obvious.
3. Hey look they released a patch. V1.16, after installing it the game wont even load. Unistall, re-install and do that a few times over and still no luck getting it to run with the patch installed....ARGH....I put it away untill the next patch (see below).
4. Another patch, V1.17...this one hopefully fixes the problems caused by the first patch....NOPE!!!!. Same old thing, it wont load!!!.
So I try doing the long task of re-installing it over and over trying diff things, diff drivers....on and on. I finally got it to run...but at the main screen where it mentions the version # in the bottom right corner it stll says V1.07f????....this is the same one as the original after I have installed the patch....WTF is going on?.
5. I play a game anyway, maybe it is updated, who knows....at around 1750 going into the industrail age the splash screen pops up and no matter what I choose to do...close, play the game, show me the big picture etc. it crashes.....CIV3.EXE error that I have seen so much on this board. I loaded it and tried several times over, changing a few things before the crash and it didnt change anything, even if I delayed discovering the tech for a few turns.
6. I try to uninstall and I get an error message about not being able to delete the blink.32 file (I got that message almosy every time I un-installed). After re-booting I have to manually remove the rest of the CIV3 items (isnt that what the un-install is for???). I still cant delete the Blink.32 file???. Now I cant even install the game anymore, it wont even give me the option. The first time it crashed with an error about 3% in and now the only options I get are to un-install or re-install, both of which wont work and the computer freeze.
This is where im at now, after owning the game since it was released I havent even finished one god damn game!!!. I have had quite a few "discussions" with infogames tech support..the first one I sent I got no reply, the second I did...which was the normal "make sure your drivers are up to date" bull, even after I said they were up to date so dont tell me to check!!!. My third letter was much more hostile, im quite surprised they even responded. They told me they were un-able to re-create my problem on any of their machines, hmmm so does that mean Im making this all up?.....now they dont know how to help (or refuse to tell me the problems), I dont know what to do anymore. I'm ready to throw this game out, I have wasted WAYYYYYY too much time trying to get it to work so I can have FUN!!!, not FRUSTRATION!!!.
This is long winded but I have no-one else to complain to anymore. I mean really, a game with this many problems should not have been released, do they even have a spell checker???, obviosly NOT. I have had lots of problems with games before but this one is BY FAR the worst I have ever encountered. When a patch creates more problems then it solves then who the hell is doing the programming....this is total CRAP. If I lived even somewhat close to their offices I would personally give them their un-finished game back and demand a refund(LOL, yeah, like they would ever do that). Garbage, junk, not worth a cent. Oh yeah and the manaul?, sure its good but there is only a few new pages in it, the rest is almost exactly the same as CIV2 manual was...LOL, I guess I should be happy they gave us a "hard" copy manual....most companys are too cheap these days to do that!
Now for my good points....It looked like a great game to play but I havent really seen that much of it.
For anyone who actually read this far I commend you, I would have given up at the first paragraph.....LOL.
Firaxis/Infogames/SID....DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS GAME SOON!!!!!!!!.
