Edited Battle Sound Remove this text

While peeking and poking around the SMAC files, I came across some I think we never hear. As many are aware, the program was originally going to differentiate between Energy Weapons and Projectile Weapons, and among Energy, Projectile, and Binary Defenses. For whatever reason, that was never implemented. But, they did create the sounds for the weapons.

There are two longer battle sequences ("battle1_.wav" [12.88 seconds] and "battle2_.wav" [8.17 seconds]) that are very cool, but unused in the game.
There are two Projectile Weapon sounds ("projectile1.wav" [2.38 seconds] and "projectile2.wav" [1.03 seconds]), and these are not used.
Then there is the Energy Weapon sound ("energy1.wav" [2.79 seconds]). This is the sound used for all battles except Psi Combat (which uses "psi attack.wav" [2.94 seconds], followed by either "boom.wav" [2.23 seconds] for all units except Native Lifeforms (worms, isles, locusts) which use "psi blow.wav" [3.07 seconds]).
Then there are a couple of other sounds for artillery and something else (I think).

Where am I going with this? Well, using the simple little tool called "Sound Recorder" which comes with Windows, I mixed the two Projectile sounds with the Energy sound and made what I think is a neat noise. It sounds like a generator charging up, then a blast, then an echo. Kinda neat in a battle with it overlapping and the final fade. The best thing is it is the same length as "energy1.wav".

Step 1: Rename "energy1.wav" to "energy1q.wav".
Step 2: Open "energy1q.wav".
Step 3: Move the time position up to 0.40 seconds.
Step 4: Click "Edit", "Mix with file...", and select "projectile1.wav".
Step 5: Moved the time position up to 1.70 seconds.
Step 6: Click "Edit", "Mix with file...", and select "projectile2.wav".
Step 7: Save the result as "energy1.wav". This is necessary because it is the only file called by the program for combat between two land units.

I attached it here, in case anyone wanted to hear it. If you use it, be sure to rename the original "energy1.wav" to something else so you don't lose it!

Enjoy!
