Civilization: the Card Game (any plans, Firaxis?) Get a bigger avatar today!

As an experienced Magic: The Gathering player, I think it can be done.
The different civ traits and great leaders would make it interesting to trade/collect.

Firaxis, what do you say?

Got spare money?

I agree, I think that it would be a very fun and fairly feasable TCG. With the 16 civilizations and their diferent traits, all of the unique units and all of the regular units. Throw in some diplomacy cards, some action cards and you would have a very playable very fun game!

Civilization: the Boardgame
posted by Thunderfall at 5:31 PM

We received an official press release from EagleGames about a new strategy boardgame based on Sid Meier’s Civilization, confirming the rumor we reported about this game on February 1st. Here is an excerpt:
Eagle Games, Inc., a boardgame design and manufacturing company, announced that it has plans to publish the boardgame version of the best-selling PC game, Sid Meier’s Civilization. The most recent title in the series, Sid Meier’s Civilization III was developed by Firaxis Games and published by Infogrames last year. Civilization: The Boardgame is scheduled for an August, 2002 release.
[...]
When asked about the unique advantages of a boardgame version of a PC product, Drover said, “Players will be able to play REAL face-to-face multiplayer matches, the pieces will be in REAL 3-D, and the social experience that players get when playing boardgames cannot be matched by a computer terminal. And finally, it’s just really cool to move all those miniatures around the gorgeous antique-style map.”

The Boardgame will feature over 800 detailed miniature plastic pieces representing armies, navies, settlers, leaders, and cities from four different historical periods (ranging from 4000 BC to the near future). Additionally, the game will contain a colorful, gigantic 46” x 36” gameboard featuring the artwork of Paul Niemeyer; over one hundred cards depicting technological advances and Wonders of the World; and three sets of rules from Basic to Advanced. These elements immerse the player in the excitement, flavor and visual appeal of this classic game, while providing fast, fun gameplay. Assets and reviews of current products may be viewed on the company’s website: www.eaglegames.net

It's really easy to playtest card games... Unless they're "collectible" 'casue then it's hard to account for rarities, etc...

An easy way I see it:

* use a set deck and/ of decks... better yet, have one for each civ, that way, you buy a $10 deck of say, the Indians...

* use the concept of "tapping" to perform actions like explore (draw an explore card) and "produce unit" (play unit card)
* you have maybe two types of cards: explore cards and play cards.

* play cards include:
-settlers
-units (as um... units)
-event/ government/ misc cards
-tech cards

* explore cards include:
-lands
-goodie huts

the more I think about this, the more I think it's feasable...
the more I think it'll turn out like Dune... very complex with a lot of counters...

whach'all thank?

Heck, I have a hard time learning those card games, but I think I'd be able to give this a try.

THe more we discuss it the more I want to go out and buy a deck and play!! That would be so cool to have a deck for each civ, then tehre could be neutral cards that you could mix and match between teh civs so not every Indian deck would be the same. For example, since the Germans are militristic and expansionist they would get bonuses for play with cards that reflect that, but if someone wanted to play them as a diplomatic civ they could just change the neutral cards in the deck.

Ok, it would be hard to incorporate "swapable" cards, but I'm thinkin' how the tech tree would move... especially from ancient to medieval times, etc... maybe a seperate "tech" deck...

I like the idea a lot.
I have the playtesting experience to give it a try.
However, I don't think I have the appropriate time or financial resources to attempt this... nor the human opponents willing to playtest with me...

I think I'll wait for the board game.
