Darkages Mod: discussion of a possible negative advance mod Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

well last night i had an idea, and i was wondering if we could turn it into a mod...basically iw would work like this, the more technology you got the worse units and buildings you could build, it would be like a downward spiral

like the first units you could build would be cheap uber units, then as you got more tech the units would go down in strength in up in cost

all of the buildings would have to be enabled by wonders, which would expire, and to force the player to aquire tech, before they could build any other wonders (which enables buildings) they would have to build a government specific wonder (which each civ getting a different government) that acted like the great library and wouldn't expire, so even if they set their tech rate at nothing, eventually they would decay when the AI's discovered the technology

those are just preliminary ideas, so does anyone think it woul be possible to do and would anyone be interested in it?

It's an interesting idea, but how would the AI handle it?

i'm assuming that the AI will always do tech research

then start everyone off with a tech that enables a certaingovernment, and each government has a government specific wonder that allows the construction of all of the other wonders which enables buildings, all of this should be quite cheap, like 10 shields for each wonder

to get people startd off fast, give them a premade start, or settlers that cost 10 shields, zero pop and move 2 squares and treats all terrain like roads...talk about the map filling up

then give them three or four different categories

a defensive, offensive, and then mobile/all around, or mobile, and all around

each of the starting units cost 10 but have high a.d.m ratings

make the capital give massive amounts to defense

and then everything is all downhill from there...and as long as the units upgrade everything should be fine, because the players wouldn't be able to build their uber units anymore, just the "newer" less powerful more expensive units...though although the tech would make a civ weaker, i am assuming that the AI would still research it

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

But wouldn't it be possible to store large amount of uber units from the early game, and when the AI have downgraded al its units go hit it. I'm interesting in this complex. GA could be really bad in early games.

gramphos

well if you didn't have barracks in the game, yet still had the units upgrade then the AI wouldn't cut it's own throat, the gameplay would be strange though, hopefully fun though

To make the mod more balanced, have when you reach some final tech levels, you would be able to create some super-uber units that are far more powerful than what was available in the earlier portion of the game. This way there would be some balance to the game.

What if they lose the city containing the 'Great Library' wonder? Starve it to death or something. You'd be stuck without buildings, but you could still get the units, and take over the world...

Unless the units were also wonder-enabled

I don't think it would work very well. You'd go into contortions trying to get the computer to do what you want. I like that word. Contortions. Contortions. Contortions. Banana.
