First, if you haven't already, please click on that link to surf around what Dan (Firaxis' Webmaster) has come up with so far.
I thought it might be helpful, or at least interesting, to hear from you guys at Apolyton regarding what you'd like to see as the site develops. For example, do you think it should remain fairly static, always changing with new content, a doorway to interacting with Firaxis itself, what?
- FORUMS: Frankly, I don't think Firaxis has enough staff (or at least a dedicated person) to handle a forum. And with Apolyton here, why waste resources and open a can of worms. Your thoughts?
- MAILBAG: Those who remember the SMAC days, might recall that we had the exciting prospect of hearing from various of the Firaxis members in answer to our e-mails. This lasted about 3 or 4 issues and just died without a word. It seems a fun idea, but again requires consitent effort to pull off. Should we try to revive it?
Well, those are just two things, and I haven't even touched on site design, etc. But perhaps I should leave with the meta-question: Do you even think that the official Civ3 site should be a priority for Firaxis? If so, please give some suggestions. Thanks.

i've got only one suggestion/request: often updates!
"ask the civ team" features should come at a regular pace every 7-10 days, even if they dont give as much info all the time. when we have more rare chances of asking question before the release, we tend to forget to ask(and the suggest/"correct") about smaller but also important stuff

bagdar, no matter how much time they're spending on AI development, I encourage them to spend even more time on it. If they spend 1,000 hours programming the AI and 200 hours designing the website, I'd be happier to see them spend 1,150 hours on the AI and 50 hours on the website (yes, I pulled those numbers out of thin air, I have no idea what is realistic for this).
As a for-profit company, Firaxis will only be able to devote X number of hours of paid staff time to the entire Civ3 project. yin26 asked if we thought the website should be a priority for Firaxis. In case my answer wasn't clear enough -- "No, I do not think the website should be a priority." Of all the things that need improving from Civ2, in my opinion the AI should be priority number one. The website will have virtually no impact on my enjoyment of the game, and there are plenty of unpaid volunteers (here at Apolyton and elsewhere) who will do the website development.
Spend the paid staff hours on the game, not the website please.

What makes you think some web guy can program AI? Honestly, I'm sure Dan was hired to do...ta-da...the Civ III website. Right? Everyone follow?

Dan most likely is that MOHonor but he seems to be should be inlvolved in the making of the game too. As for the website, I really do think its for promotion but I don't think a CIV3 will need any promotion if it lives up to our expectations

Here, here. I agree that the Apolyton Civ Site is just fine for CIV III. The way that it stands now, at least the CIV III forum has a focal point...right here

I hope to play a lot of Civ III multiplayer.
A Civ III battle headquarters much liked the old SMAC one would be good to bring together and meet new people to play. Firaxis should add this to their website at release time.
