If the science slider is set to a level where according to the display an advance won't ever be discovered (eg 0%), do we still get the advance anyway after 40 turns (this was the situation pre-patch as I understand it). I play with the latest patch now.
I currently set it to 20% early on to max income and buy advances on the assumption I can invest in science after getting the Great Library.....thanx.
On the Great Library, if another civ gets it before I do and they get the Education advance, is the wonder obsolete completely or would it operate for me were I to conquer the city having it (assuming I don't have Education advance) ?...thanx

Thanks people for clarifying the science investment query, I'll stick to my game plan of minimum science settings etc.
On the GL, I'll maybe try and set up a game to test this out when I have time. Should be easy enough to do via the editor...and I'll post the result up when I find out. Thanx again

OK, I captured it having made sure the civ (Egyptians) had the Education advance by purchasing advances leading up to it (Theology etc) from the Egyptians. No other civs but me and them. Captured the city, no free advances. Quelled all resistance, still no free advances.....so: once obsolete it remains globally obsolete ;-)
