Saltpeter won't appear anwhere near me Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Has anyone come across this? Its the third game i've played where Saltpeter won't appear in my empire after I've discovered Gunpowder. In the latest game, I control an entire continent and have the second largest land mass, still no saltpeter!!!

Am I missing something???

No. The resources are determined at the instant of the maps creation. You can reload any number of times it will not matter.

What will happen is that resources may become depleted elsewhere. Then they may appear *be discovered* elsewhere.

So you may not start with any, but you may get some at a later point when you *discover* it.

Salpeter appears mostly in desert, hills and mountains. It is a good idea to colonise significant areas of *bad* terrain in order to secure resourses.

Oil will appear in Desert and Tundra. Also Plains (until 1.17f).

You have very bad luck... You will need to explore more and make a litle war for the resource.

Thanks for the replies. At least I'm not missing something. It looks like I've just been unlucky, although I do have a good deal of varied territory. I saw on one of the posts that you can increase the number of resources throughout the map, but when I change rules on the editor it screws up the science screen. All the lines connection advances lose their connections and makes the screen unusable. Ever see that?
