Not particularly tough. I guess MPPs are nice if you're really feeling in danger of being attacked by a major world power, but otherwise, I find them very annoying, as you'll often get drawn into wars that you don't want.
Military Alliances I hardly ever use unless I'm trying to improve relations with the person I ally with, and usually I'll only do it if I'm already at war with the person we're going against. Even then, Military Alliances can hurt more than they help, by forcing you to remain in a war that may be stunting your growth. If you cancel before the 20 turn minimum is up, all the other civs are much less likely to make agreements with you.
About the only Embassy agreement that is really valuable is the Right of Passage, but it only really help if you're trying to get through one person's territory to attack another. I've never understood why you get a "black mark" for attacking someone who you've got a RoP with. It's not as if by agreeing to it, you're promising not to use it to attack them.... I guess the best use of this is if you're near the end of the game and you just want a Domination victory without having to worry about anything else. Then you can exploit the RoP without really worrying about what other civs think of you.
