Israeli troops patrol their border fence as UN Peacekeepers patrol on the Lebanese side of the volatile Lebanese-Israeli border, the so-called Blue Line.

Originally, the Peacekeepers were supposed to be guarding the Blue Line, but they never really intervened in anything, so they're basically just passive observers who report "violations" and then try to stay out of harm's way...

A young Israeli girl waves the national flag in Tel Aviv, April 16, 2002, during celebrations to mark Israel's Independence Day. As Israel marked its annual Memorial Day on the eve of the 54th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish State, the army tightened its blockade of the West Bank and Gaza, fearing attacks by Palestinian militants.

Here's the body of another suspected collaborator being dragged around in the streets of Hebron. The Israeli missile attack killed two men, the militant leader they were after and his bodyguard.

Palestinian militants responded by killing three men suspected of collaborating with Israel and parading them through the streets like this.

A dead Palestinian suicide bomber lies half out of his car after the vehicle he drove exploded next to an Israeli military checkpoint near the Kissufim crossing on the Gaza Strip, Friday, April 19, 2002. It was the first such attack on the Gaza Strip in five months. The assailant was killed and two soldiers were lightly wounded.

The number of soldiers killed since the beginning of the Liberation War in 1947 is around the 19,500. The number 21,000+ is the number of soldiers/"militia men" killed since the beginning of the settlement in Israel in the late 19th century.

An Israeli soldier is in position to cover his comrade as he runs across an alley near the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Meanwhile, Palestinian and US officials said Burns and Arafat discussed the standoffs in Ramallah and Bethlehem, truce prospects and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians. The Palestinians said they will not begin truce talks until Israeli forces have left all Palestinian-run areas in the West Bank. Israel said it will lift the blockades in Ramallah and Bethlehem once the gunmen holed up there surrender.
