Goth litterature rocks though. (if such thing can be deemed as a separate genre).
I recommend Oxford's Anthology of Goth Litterature. Pretty good.

I agree that "I sleep in rubber pyjamas and drink goat blood" and other "eevul goth" sterotypes are quite pathetic.

But generally, subcultures are always positive. Excluding criminal organizations. (edit: well, neo-nazism and such probably aren't considered to be 'subcultures'...)

IMO subcultures are "positive" when they give a sense of belonging to someone without infriging the law or having dire consequences to that person.

But in the end most subcultures are like a "helping wood" (for lack of the word in english) to walk with.

Again this is only my opinion and there's not even a clear definition of what a subculture is.

THAT kind of stuff is FUNNY. I think it important that people be able to laugh at themselves...and after many years of people laughing AT me, i can finally do that. I LIKE to laugh at those fake "oh woe is me" posers who do it for looks and shocks. It's a fad for them.
dressing this way makes me feel comfortable in my skin and it prolly stems from mental problems...not the fakesness to which alot of goths..esp teens..approach it from.
and don't even get me started on wicca. that **** is so ...****!
alot of goths don't practive it, but like myself, enjoy the literature and art of the time.
and all the music.

I once had a goth kid in my clinic who was complaining of fainting spells. After hearing him out I calmly removed the choke chain from his necka and he was cured. I explained how the pressure on the blood vessels in the neck triggered a reflex that slowed the heart down and reduced blood flow to the brain. You'd think he would have been happy to have his problem solved so cost effectively, but no, evidently I was persecuting his culture and therefore very uncool.

Fact: Not all Goths are the same, just as not all Gangsta Rappas are the same.

Fact: Most Goths do have some sort of depression, that doesn't mean that they want to kill themselves.

Fact: Not everyone who wears dark clothes is a Goth. I know several people who wore black on a regular basis and were not Goth.
