Music Skips Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

I recently got a 2.0 Ghz pentium 4 computer and started playing Civ III. Huge maps now play with no 30 minute delays, a turn takes jsut as long as a normal game

However, when playing the music that comes with the game, the music still gets hung and starts skipping. it's not a processor issue, I checked the processor usage. I think it's a program problem. Anyone have any info on this, or know how to correct it?

I usually just listen to other CDs while playing, but thought I'd try something different.

Increase the size of your Attachments

Might seem sort of basic, but make sure to close as many other programs as possible before firing up civ3. I routinely have the same problem -- I go in to task manager (I run Win2000) and kill all the non-essential tasks, ESPECIALLY virus scan. Seems to run fine after that.

BTW, how much memory do you have? You have a fast cpu, but might be bottlenecking on the memory...

I want a 2 GHz PC, too... seriously, no ideas about the problem.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

this may be stating the obvious but i had the same problem and i had no idea what to do. I didnt do a full install so my civ3 plays the music from the CD. Well instead of dragging this post out all i did as a last resort was clean the cd (i treat my cds well and it didnt look dirty enough to be causing the problem.. mustve been all the dust-buildup waiting for these game fixing 'miracle' patches! ) and lo and behold twas fixed . no more skipping music. hopefully this is your problem too.

mm

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Also, your CDROM drive may need cleaning.

Thanks for all the suggestions

To answer a few questions: it has 1GB Ram, and if that's not enough it should have been mentioned on the box for the game.
Anyway, good thought.

It's not a CD issue (at least I don't think so) I did a full install so the MP3's are on my harddrive.

I'll try the DMA angle and see what happens.

Thanks again.

They are called computer stores...

And btw, the're not exclusive to the US. You can find them in Canada, Japan and so on. My friend just bought a 2.2 P4 with 512 RAM. Now THAT is a machine.

Inflate your Upload Space

Actually, I bought all the parts and assembled it myself. You save a lot of $$$ that way. Start with a motherboard that can do what you want and go from there. Part by part over a few paychecks and scavange from your old computer. Fun stuff

Well, it remains a mystery. The problem only crops up in the ancient era. I have had no problems with the other time periods, so I will re-copy the ancient .MP3's over and hope that solves it.

Maybe one of my 1 and 0's was turned into a 2 during the original install.
