Hey Flubber,
I noticed you were on-line, so if it is convenient, could you please resend the last turn? I suppose it is on the (circuitous) way, but perhaps it will go the almost instant way this time. I saw your post last night, I'm glad I didn't wait up for the turn to come in.
Thanks,
John
Edit: Still no turn at 8PM (EDT) Fri.
Edit: Ditto - almost 4PM on Sat.; email and PM sent

Turn 2127 to DataJack Darius of the Angels.
Flubber, I got your resend(s) without delays in transit (I just couldn't play the turn then). If I ever get the original, I will probably look at the details and see if anything suggests itself. It seems that whenever I don't get the mail delivery relatively quickly, it takes a very long time instead - perhaps some mail servers do not retry congested connections very frequently. I think that some of the suggested settings make a couple of retries early on and then allow longer and longer intervals between retries until they finally give up so a 6 or 12 hour wait could be specified.
Anyway, if you find it easy enough to send 2 copies at a time to different addresses (i.e. a group recipient), you could use my hotmail address (johndmuller@hotmail.com) as the second address. When Darius used that system in another game, I seemed to get the turns in hotmail that were delayed in msn or vice versa, so it worked pretty well. My general MO is to check my subscribed threads list to see if I should be getting a turn, so if it didn't come in via msn I would know to look in my hotmail account (which I would not otherwise check very frequently).
Just to get on topic a little - have either of you given any thought to the relative merits of exchanging all your techs with your partners versus lowering tech costs by trying to trade only those techs you think you have to trade at any particular time? I know when it comes to stealing tech from Yang, say, one would not want to waste a theft on a tech you could have gotten for free, but aside from that and pod techs (which I have heard never are above level 1 techs), are there any other downsides to being selective in the exchanges?

2128 to Flubber.
Sounds like MSN is using their backup server on the third moon of Pluto.
I typically trade all of my tech with my other faction as soon as I get it. I know that it raises my tech cost and is therefore not the most efficient method, but here are my reasons:
1. LESS MICROMANAGEMENT. I don't like the complexity of keeping track of which faction has which techs. I'm even lazy about keeping track of which techs I have when playing only one faction.
2. While I understand your point about only trading techs that my factions need, I figure that I will need them all eventually. Therefore, see #1.
3. I have not play-tested this, but it seems that, if my factions withhold techs from each other, then very soon their choices for new techs will become limited, as each is presented with choices that the other already has. By sharing techs right away, I think that I am increasing the options for new techs.
4. As you pointed out, John, I would hate to steal a tech or link an artifact to get a tech that my other faction already has.
I guess my main reason is #1, that I am just not inclined to work that hard at optimizing my techs.
