A Question of Honour Increase the size of your Attachments

Thanks to this forum, my playing has improved substantially over the last couple of weeks. I've actually started making polluting bases and harvesting the worms... thats another story though.

My question today consists of honour... what tanks it? Sometimes I think I have been honourable but then I look down and I am merely dependable. Some situations might serve an opening guideline but if anyone has definitive answers... hit me up. In all these situations, I want to know if my honour takes a hit. Truce/Treaty means 2 situations, since some things are acceptable with truces and some with treaties. I presume anything goes in a vendetta state

A) Truce/Treaty with someone, and I probe them successfully without framing. (Does success matter?)
B) Truce/Treaty with someone, and I probe with a frame
C) Truce with someone, and I build a base in their borders
D) Blood truce with someone, and I build a base in their borders
E) Blood truce and I attack
F) I declare vendetta on someone I have not met
G) I declare vendetta on a treaty member after being asked to
H) I declare vendetta on a treaty member just because I want to
I) Treaty member and I demand withdrawal
J) Treaty member, they demand withdrawal, I say "I'm redrawing our borders sucker"
K) Treaty member and I try to extort them for cash/tech

...thats all I can think of for now. My thoughts on honour came up because I was annoyed that in my last game the Hive broke about SEVEN blood truces immediately after signing them with me, and I gave him tech/cash for every single one. I was so pissed I got the charter abolished and I atrocitied his ass (and I almost never do that). I was thinking about how treacherous he was, and then wondered if the other AI's would see it my way too. Either way... I digress. Thanks in advance for any answers

Re: A Question of Honour Suffering from ads?

Hi Knave75. Good to see someone else who cares about honour.

I copied you list, and am putting a * before the ones that negatively affect your reputation(honour). Just from memory, so I may get some wrong! (I added the italics).

A) Truce/Treaty with someone, and I probe them successfully without framing. (Does success matter?) No it doesn't matter
B) Truce/Treaty with someone, and I probe with a frame
* C) Truce with someone, and I build a base in their borders
* D) Blood truce with someone, and I build a base in their borders
* E) Blood truce and I attack
F) I declare vendetta on someone I have not met
G) I declare vendetta on a treaty member after being asked to
* H) I declare vendetta on a treaty member just because I want to
Note there is no way to delcare vendetta. You must attack, probe, or bait your opponent in declaring it. depending on which way you do it, your rep may or may not take a hit.
I) Treaty member and I demand withdrawal
J) Treaty member, they demand withdrawal, I say "I'm redrawing our borders sucker"
K) Treaty member and I try to extort them for cash/tech

Also note that after 10 years a truce runs out (if not renewed), and then attacking doesn't hit your reputation.

I'm pretty sure they declare vendetta on you if you don't withdraw, and you don't take a hit. But as I said, from memory only!!

This is one of the reasons for allowing demand withdrawl in MP (though not enough to allow it in the face of all the negative implications)

Suffering from ads?

Since MP involves humans who normally don't care about in-game "reputation" I would think that the reputation hit would matter a lot less than in SP.

I am pretty vehement against the demand withdrawal option given the impossibility of declaring a vendetta unless you can find a unit to attack or an AI to request the vendetta.

So ignoring a demand for withdrawal doesn't hurt your rep? I would have thought that you were violating the treaty by walking through treaty-friend's territory, so if anyone would be to blame for the vendetta it would be the person who had violated the treaty in the first place.

Also, probing a treaty friend doesn't hurt your rep? I am suprised

Unless I declare vendetta on the Gaians, Peacekeepers or University (since I am usually one of these three and follow all of their agendas), I usually find that the other factions declare vendetta on ME, purely because they hate the way I set up my Social Engineering choices.

If you want vendetta, set a social engineering choice so it offends the faction you want to annihilate. Then whenever they want to do business with you, refuse. That's usually how I get vendetta. Lose their trust the honourable way.

- To lose the Gaians' trust: Use Free Market or Planned economics
- To lose the Hive's trust: Use Democratic or Fundamentalist politics
- To lose the University's trust: Use Power or Wealth values
- To lose the Morganites' trust: Use Green or Planned economics
- To lose the Spartans' trust: Use Knowledge or Wealth values
- To lose the Believers' trust: Use Democratic or Police State politics
- To lose the Peacekeepers' trust: Use Police State or Fundamentalist politics
