Le Pens victory shows that the silent majority wants the Death Penalty and they dont like the way the EU is going.

As to the Protests, I wonder where they were on Election day complaining that the Election is to boring. I guess its not boring now is it?

Many people in the protests were sure there was no need to vote Jospin at the first round, as it was sure he'll be at the second round. Many didn't vote at all, many others voted for a small candidate (trotskyist or "sympathetic") while they didn't have big ideological differences with Jospin, thinking they'd vote for him at the second turn, when it matters. At last, some voted Jospin (16 % of the voters, more than 12% of the French).
Sure, the non-Jospin-voters-who-wanted-too look stupid now. Maybe it'll be a lesson.

Maybe they'll give back Elsaß-Lothringen by their own. It's foreigners anyway Perhaps we even can arrive at the Holy Roman Empire in the borders of 1500. Just make sure we get the right Austrian H for president (i. e. Habsburg, not Haider or Hitler). Oh no, the Habsburg are Swiss, not Austrian. Maybe we could have some German Helmut (Schmidt, Kohl, ...)

Are you sure ? We have one the most high birth rate in europe ...

LePen is a blatant lier. Removing right for abortion will not increase birth rate. Increasing social structure for mothers and after will do it.

And yes I allow germany to invade us if LePen win ... (Damn, they know how to do it now !)

Let me quote Lepen (interview on french TV, 04/21/2002) :

Even if Le Pen wins, France won't leave the EU. The parliament will never let that happen, and the President does not have the power to do it alone.

The positions in the parliament currently reflect the elections of 5 years ago, so it'll change next elections (in June).
Currently, the Social democrats are very strong, but need a coalition with the Communists (39 representatives IIRC) and the Greens (8 representatives I think) to have an absolute majority at the parliament.
As the CP collapsed, the socialists lost voices, and the green didn't progress either, it's possible that the next parliament will be very different. It's not impossible we'll have a right-left coalition.

similar here... but then, both the christian democrats (consies) and the liberals (damn burgeois guys) are in a popularity upswing, so a burgeois coalition is the most likely, although I would prefer a grand coalition, ca veut dire (damn cedrille, how do I get it done?) social democrats and consies. but that doesn't seem likely nowadays

Echtelion :
You can't write a cédille with a QWERTZ keyboard. German students in France hate that. You have to run C:\windows\charmap.exe.
It's likely you'll have to install it though. For this, you'd have to
- go to the control panel
- choose "install - uninstall program"
- then choose the "Windows installation" tab.
- There, double click on "system software"
- and choose "special characters".
- Insert Windows CD.
Voilà ! Now you can write cédilles ! (sorry, as I'm using a french OS, I can't tell the exact names in English nor in German)

And we French can write cédilles with a single key ! Muahuahuahua !

At one point the English crown had control of the entire north of France. We've been at each others throats ever since. Personally I think a metaphorical repeat of Agincourt would be a nice end to the story.

But isnt that because CP and Socialist votes were cast for thes Trotskyites?? Are the Trotskyites really running full slates across France? Those votes have to go somewhere.

Some of these votes will go to the regular left at the second round of the elections (it's quite natural to see leftist candidates at the first round). But some won't because these parties refuse politics as it's being done, and claim they're the only true left, because other left parties gave up to capitalism. I think many leftists will refuse to vote at the second round of the parliament election.

I was expecting somesort of leftist revenge at the parlimentary election. Are you saying that it is still possible that Chirac's party could still get a majority of parliment after the debacle the left had over Le Pen?

They never claimed to be democratic.
(The other explanations mean: Neighbour, also looking for a post? and Only as long as the a**holes obey).

I never thought that Le Pen would so openly cite Hitler.

There you open a very interesting question: I'm not absolutely firm in the happenings around the hundred year's war. But wasn't it that William the conquerer, being a French duke, conquered England, and he and his successors were thus a) a French duke (and as such subject to the King) and at the same time b) independent Kings of England? And the 100 year's war was a civil war between the French king and one of his dukes? Thus the Queen can claim back her fiefs, but beforehand it is necessary to install a French King (Which TheStylo cannot be due to a lack of noble blood :cool. But maybe she could try to be to be French and British Queen because the French successfully disposed of the Bourbons? We Germans still have sufficient of "von Hannover"s left to help out, if you lack of personnel.

DinoDoc :
I know you're from AECCP but try to understand there is a difference between leftists and the left-winged :
- the leftists want a revolution for the sake of collectivism
- the left-winged want to moderate capitalism so that it doesn't creat too much inequality and misery.

I don't know if you think "pah ! all commies !" after reading this, but I insure you there is a true difference between the left-winged, and the leftists. Many leftists don't forgive the left-winged for having accepted capitalim. And so, many of them simply won't vote at the second round, when they'll only have choice between left-winged, right-winged and far right (leftist candidates have almost never enough voices to make it to the second round : a candidate must have more than 10% to maintain himself at the second round).

So much for the leftists. A more general thing now : it's almost sure our president is going to be right-winged (at least I hope it won't be Le Pen). And we just came out of a period of "cohabitation" (a right-winged president and a left-winged government) that many people don't want anymore. I suspect many undecided people will vote to the right, in order to get rid of the cohabitaiton. Don't know if this will be enough. But a sure thing is that nothing is sure in French election
