Yeah, it's May 1st isn't it. Splendid.

I am pro-EU, probably in some hope that it will form stronger links between the working classes of different company. I know and understand people's concern about the bureaucracy, but in my eyes, I have no preference for the member states sovereignties over there being an EU superstate. They are all working in their own interests.

Axi, American, but Catholic. I am also a Republican. You will find a large number of Americans strongly pro-Israel, whether Democrat or Republican, Christian or Atheist. They do not have to be Jewish.

Chirac will win with overwhelming majority. At least that's what the polls say and I think, this time, they are right.

I think that the polls have already proven thier worth at predicting Le Pen's support this election and unless you wish to encounter a "Dewey beats Truman" scenario, I'd stop counting on them.

Well, same polls thought it would be Jospin-Chirac in the second turn. I, too, think that Chirac will win, but I won't be completely sure before I got the result.

The fact that they are just now doing that kind of thing would make me only trust a French poll as far as I could throw it.

Akka le Vil, I cannot speak for every American, but I do notice that Communists historically have called for the overthrown of the U.S. government. We also notice that communist governments tend to be one-party dictatorships. Stalin, Mao and Castro are not what we want in the United States.

On a separate point, communism depends on a class system to generate support. Nothing like that exists in the the United States.

Just found some "amusing" fact about the friends of our 'friend'

BUDDIES OF LE PEN AND HIS PARTY :

Léon Gaultier: former lieutenant Waffen SS
Gilbert Gilles : former adjudant Waffen SS, former member of the OAS
Marc Augier : aka Saint-Loup. writter, ex-SS
Pierre Busquet : former member of the division Charlemagne
Victor Barthélemy : former member of the légion des volontaires français contre le Bolchevisme (LVF)
Paul Malaguti : Member of the Parti Populaire Français, guarding the Gestapo's house in Nice while resistants were being tortured (Canard enchainé, 26 february 1992)
Roland Gauguillot : former member of the Vichy government
Pierre Sergent : former member of the OAS

For those not used about French internal history :

OAS : extreme-right party whose members tried to keep the Algeria as a french colony. Involved in tortures, de Gaulle's assassination attempt, military putch attempt.

LVF, Waffen FF, Division Charlemagne : French voluntarees in WW2 that fought in the Nazi army as foreign soldiers.

You did not finished anything. Communists are still here in North Korea and Viet-nam, and fascists still exist in many states (in fact, Pinochet was sent to power by the CIA, and the Colonels' regime was helped by USA, too).

Korea is still a problem I grant you, but we are keeping an eye on them. As for the others, it's not our job to tell everyone what sort of government to have, we take an interest when they threaten their neighbors or us. There are bad governments in many places in the world, so we pay more attention to those whose policies have negative effects on us and out allies.

Akka, I don't know if "hatred" is the right term. I believe that many American's disagree with a lot of what the radical left has to say, such as state ownership of the means of production.

We are used to discussing ideas in the United States. We actually defend the right of even the Communists to speak openly. However, most Americans do not take their economic theories seriously, but rather regard them as somewhat laughable.

In actual fact, I believe so-called "workers" are better off here in United States than anyplace else the world. If you would believe communist propaganda, this would be impossible to due to the capitalist nature of our economy.

Once upon a time, Communism was not merely a benign economic theory advanced by the left in democratic societies. It was an aggressive "religion" that was actively being spread by communists throughout the world. The USSR gave it financing and support in its cold war with the U.S. It was a real threat to the continued existence of democracies.

Now, you would argue, and correctly, that the U.S. propped up corrupt anti-communist dictatorships to keep many countries from going communist. Obviously, this was wrong morally and wrong strategically as the people of these countries ended up hating us. Hopefully, we have learned our lesson.

I sadly doubt that any secret service of any nation will ever bother about something like human rights.
