	Counter-Strike 1.4 Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I have been addicted to Counter-Strike since I downloaded Beta 5. The game has sucked me in with its realistic style play, and real world weapons. But I cannot stand version 1.4. I played it for about 5 hours and almost had to throw up.

The accuracy of weapons was made worse while moving. Even while walking, it is nearly impossible to make the bullet go where your crosshair is. Rushing has become next to impossible unless you're lucky enough to get in close quarters with a shotgun. Accuracy while squating remains the same, so the game has turned into a camp-fest.

I don't mind the changes to jumping, or even having to use the walk key instead of tapping the forward key. But they took rushing out of the game completely by making the accuracy worse. Even with a USP it's nearly impossible to hit anything while moving.

It's a shame because the new view modes and dead bodies are too cool. I even like being able to see where the bomb is on the radar if you're terrorists. But I refuse to conform to the game and become a camper. Counter-Strike has ceased to be the fast-paced team oriented FPS it once was and has become a 5 minute long standoff of campers.

Anybody else share my views? Or disagree?

The game isn't ment to be played by mindlessly running at the other team like a retard, you are supposed to use strategy.



Rushing and bunny hopping where my two biggest peaves, so it should be a big improvement for me.

I de-installed the game, together with HL a while ago, because I lost interest.

But I think the accuracy-issue is a tweak compensating for the gigantic hit-boxes v1.3 had

Well, I've given it a whirl and it's good.


Didn't really notice a whole lot of changes gameplay, but I never rush/bunny hop so I guess I wouldn't.

The new 'eye candy' is nice. view modes are good, and dead bodies staying around are nice too... but it throws me off sometimes, I still need to get used to that one.

Like I said, I don't mind not having bunny-hopping, but the game has just become too lame. I like the strategy aspect of it. Very rarely does the "running around" tactic work. I tend to play on regular servers with people who try to play with teamwork. My beef is that it is too easy to be on defense now. Flashbangs don't seem to do didly squat, and since there is no accuracy while running, it's impossible to kill campers.

If you have Half-Life, you can install the mod available off www.counter-strike.net, you can also buy it in the store, IIRC, it's included in HalfLife: Generation 3; that's a package with HL, OF, TFC, and CS

Hmmm...last time I played CS was with version 1. ehmmm...might be 0. something, to be hornest I have no clue, it's about 20 months ago. The game was cool at the beginning, but now it's all the same. At netparties people only join the servers with the map dust and militia, they NEVER try new levels, and I really hate playing the same map over an over again...And no, I never play those games online...ok, I seldom play online games in general.

With other words: I have no interest playing the game again! I hope they soon make a new game which can make CS be history!!!

20 months ago? That must have beta 6.6, or beta 7.0

And I know what you mean with the map choices, but both de_dust and cs_militia are decent MP maps.
My favorite's still cs_italy, followed by de_nuke.

They were decent maps, until I played those maps too many times. My favorite maps were the Mansion and the one with the plane, though only VERY few people wants to play those maps at netparties, and those few would be those who I sometimes spend a weekend with on LAN! Which makes it no reason to play that map at netparties!
