The fun is back definately. Theres two crucial points that ive noticed so far: The first is that it dosnt feel like you're beta testing it any more, the second is the fact you can turn the corruption level down from the crazy levels they were set at before ... ive found about 60% corruption to be a good setting...

Indeed, I was about to lose all hope that the game would improve. And then 1.21 appears. Now they are finally stepping forward towards perfecting a game with great potential.

A quick question: there have been many threads about bugs in 1.21, too many to read, so is 1.21 worth installing or do the bugs create too many problems?

The bugs are imaginary, or very minor. 1.21f is a good patch.

I would have to agree with 1.21 being way, way better. 1.17 got installed/uninstalled twice due to the copious amounts of tech whoring. I just played a game last night and it was pretty damn sweet. It had that old-school Civ feeling.

Of course, I played at a lower level (Warlord) not knowing how bad the tech whoring was going to be. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the game which was a good thing. This is what should have been the first version of Civ, not the one that I actually bought.

Put an end to popups!

i edited tech whoring (it was set 130 at monarch) down to 115. however, i play with 12 civs on standard map. i reckon 120 would be okay for 8 civs. this creates a world in which SOME AI civs actually have one or two techs less and that is fine.

question for soren: why some AI civs (powerful, big ones) look like they can run deficits, why some small civs actually really fall back and cannot spit out the cash for shiny new techs?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

LaRusso...

I think that an AI civ can "run a deficit" because it has a bigger treasury. It can either take a loss for the 20 turns or change its tax rate to compensate. The puny ones usually only have 5 gold and no income, so it's hard for them to shift things around to pay.

Could someone please tell me in a nutshell what patch 1.21 accomplishes? If it truly puts the fun back in, then is that to say that I might have a prayer of winning at Deity level?

- AI tech whoring is no longer an issue,
- The AI uses certain units for both offense and defense,
- You can reduce corruption and add lethal bombardment with the editor.

I was good at Civ2 on diety, on civ3(1.21) i'm still getting my butt kicked on monarchy. I hated 1.17 and so far have enjoyed 1.21.

I forgot about that one because it's not that imortant IMO.

Well, if I'm wrong, the modmakers will find out soon.

I must say that the fun has finally entered Civ3. It wasn´t that fun before...

The 1.17f kept Civ3 on my HD for three weeks, I have a feeling that 1.21f will keep it there longer.
