Annoying: Destroyer auto-attacks enemy sub! Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

I'm currently playing as the Aztecs and my playing style is generally peaceful. However, annoying civilizations have felt the wrath of anything ranging from my jaguar warriors 'til tanks.
I was all set to win a space race victory (Apollo almost finished), when I moved one of my destroyers along the English shore. I move my units by mouse, and along the route there appeared to be an English sub. The computer didn't warn me there was a sub, but automatically attacked the sub. I did have a ROP-agreement with the English. This resulted in all countries cancelling ROP-agreements with me, and within a few turns having other countries including my faithful allies the Romans to declare war on me. Hell, I never wanted to attack the English...yet.
Anybody had a similar experience?

Are you playing with 1.07? I thought that bug was fixed with the first patch.

Nope, I'm being old-fashioned and still playing the original game. I didn't know the bug got fixed, but anyway, I'm glad Firaxis fixed it.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

That was one of the bugs making it impossible to play Modern Age in 1.07f, the other ones being aircraft related.

Despite my general dissatisfaction with civ3, 1.21 is a better game than 1.07 (although it may be harder).
