Baldur's Gate 2 is so good it makes me cry Tired of ads?

Ok so I just finished the expansion throne of Bhaal one hour ago.

Although I have yet to play the original. I have the game, and I think I will, but I wish I could do kits. I want to go through the whole series as an evil character with both expansions. Although that could take more than 4 months!!

Graphically it isn't much, but I like the gameplay. And yes I even like D & D rules for the most part. I look at sytems like Dungeon Siege and they can't even compare to the complexity of Baldur's Gate.

What's a good character class to play through Baldur's Gate 1 with? I just finished 2 with a sorcerer- but of course they aren't in the first game.

I played BG1 as a mage - and am playing 2 as a sorcerer - although I find the class rather restrictive..

but until then...

My sorcerer was awesome!! It take a little time to buiild up strength though. He sure came in handy on that one guy/dragon who kept disappearing. I would have to keep casting true sight. With the expansion you can get up to your maximum spells per level. 5 spells usually covers all the important ones. I have Imoen as a backup for any spells not covered. Imoen sucks compared to my sorcerer. Of course it helps my sorcerer had all the cool items like robe of vecna (this item really made him powerful).

It's nice being able to cast like 7 or 8 Azi-Ha.... Horrid Wiltings... Very nice spell to be able to cast multiple times.

Put an end to popups!

Just try a sorcerer with a half-dozen or so summon planetars.

Again, not a character you can go through the first BG with, Monks aren't much to speak of in the beginning but become obscenely powerful towards the end.

Fighter-Mage and Cleric-Ranger combo's are pretty good too.

I guess you haven't tried out either the darkest day mod or David Gaiders Ascension yet?

Both are pretty well recommended.

I'm not big on mods, but I might want to try them for a bit to mess around.

And yes I did have a monk in my game as well. I did a few tricks to get 2 created characters in with 4 NPC's. My monk was invaluable. At least until I got saravek in the expansion. Saravek seemed to actually be just as good if not better than my monk. Of course he was evil, but I couldn't resist.

I'm in the middle of BG1 right now with a paladin, which seems to work pretty well. I tried with a mage, but could never get past the bounty hunter at the Friendly Arm Inn.

In BG1 I was usually a fighter (dwarf), a mage or a cleric. I wouldn't recommend playing bards and I personally didn't like paladins (only human and always lawful good which means you can't have those evil characters in your party).

Otherwise, you should probably try out different options by yourself.

At the friendly arms inn the guards will join in to help if they're around. I tended to wait till the guards were around before allowing the 'fog' to reveal the bounty hunter then runaway !
I enjoyed BG1 the most possibly because it was the first one i tried and unexpected but i also find the lower levels just more fun. Its a much bigger thrill going from level 2 to 3 than from 13 to 14 where they started to blur a bit.

That's why I wanted to play. I never messed around with the lower levels much. I've had enough demons for one day . I never had much opportunity to play around with lower level spells.

I may do a cleric. I really never experimented greatly with cleric spells. I want to use more of them this time.

Yeah, I know about using the guards against the bounty hunter, but it just didn't seem to be enough if my character was a mage; he'd always die before the guards took out the bad guy. A first-level mage falls over if hit by a stiff breeze.

Got spare money?

I'd like to see one of these games with the FIRST edition rules. That was the only edition I ever played. These new additions just seem to bog the whole thing down.

An Illusionist in the 1st edition was awesome. In the 2nd? Just another mage.

There are some first edition computer games around, but they where made when first adition was still used, so they are (obviously) quite old.

I believe there where 3 sagas, each with 3 games...

A few of the titles I can remember:

Gateway to the Savage Frontier
Treasures of the Savage Frontier
Pools of Radiance
Death Knights of Krynn
The Dark Queen of Krynn

Basic and Advanced came out at about the same time.

I'm talking about their predecessor. Just a couple of small books that eventually became advanced.

I thought basic came out a couple of years before advanced. But I was very young anyways. I didn't really understand most of the rules, and ignored the ones I didn't like.

There was also A dungeons and dragons board game if I remember correctly.

Suffering from ads?

I remember a blue softback A4 manual with a dragon on the front. It was called Basic D+D but i'm not sure which version of basic it was. Then things like expert appeared and it started to get complicated !
Don't remember the boardgame but i quite enjoyed the cartoon

I bumped into the very first edition that Gygax made. It was a little white box with two small manuals and dice, and came out IIRC in the late 70's. It was mint, and asking price seemed a bit high, though I'm sure it's quite the collectors item.
