Why does the 'Remove this banner'-banner show on the mainpage Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Not the forum mainpages, but the site mainpage with all the category listings. Is it related to the forum style in any way?

Well sure, only the second banner displays the "remove this banner" bit, so only styles with a second banner display it.
