power plants Suffering from ads?

if you build the hoover dam, you get a hydro plant in every city. if you then build a solar plant, do you get the effects of BOTH the solar plant AND the hydro plant? (this has already been asked on the general forum, but i want to know if anyone else has tried or knows for sure).

thanks.

Yes, you get both effects.

Generally speaking, old plants are replaced by the most modern one available. In this case, that would mean that the solar plant would replace the hydro plant. However, the 'give (x) in every city' Great Wonder flag means that whenever that improvement is destroyed or replaced, it is automatically replenished by the great wonder.

Another example would be if Great Wall gave Walls in every city and barbarians sacked your city and destroy Walls - you automatically get it back for free, even though it was destroyed.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

hang on, i didn't quite understand that. ok, i build the hoover dam. i now have a hydro plant in every city, and my factories' production is increased by 50%. then i build a solar plant in a city that has the hydro plant given by the hoover dam wonder. will that city then get the 50% increase from the "hydro plant" AND ANOTHER 50% increase form the solar plant?

No, the only plant that will increase production iover and beyond the hydro plant, is the nuclear plant, which raises production of the factory by 100 %.

what I meant was that you could have both if you wanted to - you could do the same thing with hydro and nuclear plant.

Yes, you can have both, but you get the benefits only once. That means you don't have to pay for hydro plant (because you have hoover dam) and get 50% production increase AND you have to pay for solar plant without getting extra production. So building a second plant only makes sense, if you want to replace it with a better plant type. A hydro plant that you got from the hover dam can't be replaced.

Funny thing that happened to me... I had recently discovered nuclear plants, so I decided to build some of them to get that amazing 150% production bonus.

I built a nuclear plant on a city that already had a solar plant. I think that I got distracted for a while, and started to build a solar plant again on that same city! Of course, the solar plant replaced the nuclear plant and I got the option to build the nuclear plant again... on a seemingly infinite loop. Has anyone ever experienced this?

well, since you can build a coal plant even after discovering every other kind of power, i guess it makes sense. you could just sit there building plant after plant if you wanted to!!!

just for the hell of it i built a solar plant in a town where i already had the hoover-dam-hydro plant. yup, no production increase. oh well.

if anyone is still reading this thread, are nuclear power plants worth the risk of meltdown? do you guys always build them? i've never built one since i always go for the hoover dam and get power plants in each city.

I build them, by the time that you can, you should have to worry about your cities going into disorder. If that worries you, go to communism first.

Got spare money?

Is it really sure that you have the benefits from both powerplants ?
> Hoover dam built - but in the cities with a solarplant the hydroplant shows like ruins in the aerial view .

Increase the size of your Attachments

There are TWO types of production enhancer improvements: 'Factories' and 'Power Plants.'

Factory definition: 'Factory' and 'Manufacturing Plant'
Power Plant definition: (all the others)

You only benefit from one power plant -- the LAST one that you built. You can benefit from both factory types.

SABRA, solarplant replaced your hydroplant, so yes, it would be 'ruinous' to indicate that it is nonfunctional. Since solar is not worse than hydro, let it be as it is.

Isn't there also a meltdown threat in times of anarchy between governments?

Not TOTALLY certain, but I believe the meltdown effect still only applies to cities in disorder, however, anarchy does increase the likelihood of cities going into disorder.

So logically, yes anarchy does increase the meltdon threat, but only as a result of cities in disorder.

I suggest moving to communism BEFORE building nuclear plants.

What actually happens when you get a meltdown?? An what are the odds of it happening? I never build a nuclear plant, not even in civ2 so I never got the chance to find out.
