	Should piracy be allowed in CTP PBEM? Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I haven't seen any rules written anywhere about this so far, but I realize that a player could modify his const.txt file to gain plenty of gold from piracy. This has been subject to debate many times in the past, but no one has ever bothered to address it in the PBEM community.

Piracy/pillaging are a part of war. Should PBEM players agree not to do such acts and a nation to break, well thats a part of diplomacy. Should, in a 1on1 game, the player agree not toand some one break that agreement, thats bad sportsmanship.

Piracy/pillaging are part of my stealth war strategy. My greatest satifaction is causing multiple city revolts with well timed piracy/pillaging. Hitting multiple trade routes of your opponent puts a server strain on his budget. The games budget balancing mechanism is to reduce wages and sell city improvements, thus causing unhappiness. Add to this capitol distance unhappiness which rises when you cut the road/railroad to remote cities, and you can get a domino effect. I have caused civs to lose every city over the population of 5 during the late modern/ early genetic age. Without piracy/pillaging I lose another weapon in my arsenal.

Of course pirating would be moot if trading were disallowed

Seriously pirating and pillaging tile improvments are part of the game. Next someone will want to outlaw all stealth units.

Pirating in PBEM as no bug issues- And it is a great way to swell you coffers and wallop the other players science.... Take it away and you are taking away a large part of many players strategies- I DO think however that maybe the % of destroyed caravans should be reduced a little..

I too like to eat farms and roads. But I also squat on goods.

I never pirate. Pirates are *******s. The person who pirates first in suprise always wins the pirate war.

hmm where was I for a week?




Everything was going great. Till the plane I was on crashed in the remote parts pacific ocean. There is no-one here. I tried to kill myself. But the tree wasnt strong enough. And food ; well..I eat whatever I can find. I tried to make a cocunut radio ; but that only works in the movies. And then a Cocoanut TV , again no luck .Then 2 women came to my island, but gahh! I lost my ****er during the parachute drop So then I was sitting there on my island tortured. Thinking of Suicide but couldnt do it. Then I heard a voice from the sky. One day, a Russian satelitte fell to the ground. I used it to serf the net and check my mail, get a new ****er at ebay. Things arent so bad. I even dug up an old bottle of whiskey. Probably the property of some basterd pirates. I was having the time of my life with these women and this bottle! That was when I remembered...

Apolyton!!!!!!!

Anyway the girlie avatar popped a nerve ; (or somthing else). So genius decides to ban me until I change my avatar. Which I cant do...when Im banned . So after a few PM exchanges, he asks me to explain myself. So I tell him no ; and that Ill see him in a month. There was nothing to explain really. I would have gladly changed the avatar with the simple PM. But the fact I got banned right away, oh..that made me angry. So I said fook it I dont need ACS anyway.

The interdiction of routes of supply is an intrinsic part of all war and therefore totally justified within CtP.

It is rather like the objection that some players have to using Slavers as being 'morally' wrong.

In both cases they stand as legitimate tactics to use whether as part of a 'game', because the rules allow them, or as of an 'historical simulation', because that was just what did happen.

I agree with you..IN THEORY and I shall elaborate why.

In a real world real time war, trade routes wouldnt be arked with a line saying PIRATE ME
I would like to see the routes not be visible.

But I do have a problem with folks whom SAY no pirating/no pillaging and then do it"accidently"(Hear that FG, I was thinking of your "accidental" attacks

But seriously, pirating and pillaging adds yet another issue, sit back, to quote Gavrushka, and FILL YOUR COFFERS with Gold and Science!! or invest in a MIltary to enforce No Pirating.

Hmmm..Should it be allowed?????

Piracy is a valid part of the game and I always use it when at war and I hate it when it's used against me. However, I prefer its application in the Apolyton Pack where the types of units capable of piracy is vastly reduced.

In real life you'd be aware of the trade routes as well. For example, the Germans knew exactly where to go to seek out trade ships going to England in WOII.

And the Americans had to figure out ways to protect their trade route.
(NukeBoy -> this is not part of our RPG in FOA)

I concider piracy a act of war and although it's annoying when you're @ the receiving end, but it always feels good to use piracy as a message to make clear who your opponent is dealing with
